Glory & Gold Won by Sorcery & Sword

You’re no hero.

You’re an adventurer: a reaver, a cutpurse, a heathen-slayer, a tight-lipped warlock guarding long-dead secrets. You seek gold and glory, winning it with sword and spell, caked in the blood and filth of the weak, the dark, the demons, and the vanquished. There are treasures to be won deep underneath, and you shall have them.

Return to the glory days of fantasy with the Dungeon Crawl Classics Role-Playing Game. Adventure as 1974 intended, with modern rules grounded in the origins of sword & sorcery. Fast play, cryptic secrets, and a mysterious past await you: turn the page…

RULES SET

DCC RPG is a fast-paced, open-feeling rules set allowing for epic game experiences without unnecessary tethers. It uses modern game-play while paying homage to the origins of role-playing and the fun that it inspired.

REVIEWS

Here's an excerpt from our favorite review (you can find the whole review on our website):

“This isn’t your father’s D&D…it’s your batsh*t crazy uncles’ D&D, straight from the smokey basement with faded black-light posters on the walls and 80’s Manowar blaring on the old tape deck. You might turn up your nose at first, but once the seven-sided-dice start rolling you find yourself sucked in.”

Here are some other reviews.

  • Year of the Dungeon: "Goodman took a very old-school point of view and made a game that manages to offer a fresh perspective on many aspects of the game while loving maintaining all the core tenets of old school play. More importantly, the game doesn’t just provide rules, but it’s a primer on how to get the most out of its chosen style of play."
  • Game Knight Reviews: "The DCC RPG book has a suggested retail price of $39.95, which I think is quite reasonable in an age when smaller hardcover books are going for the same general price point. But when you think about all the art in the book, $40 is a steal. And that’s part of my point about it being distracting. I turn the page and get lost in the art, some of which is amazingly detailed and then I have to reread the page prior to remember what I was reading about."
  • Raven Crowking's Nest: "Having read the Dungeon Crawl Classics core rulebook rather exhaustively now, I am coming to the conclusion that this will be my go-to game for all time.”
  • EN World: “Make no mistake, DCC RPG is not for everyone and it does not try to be. Randomization, heavy use of tables, critical fumbles, and no multiclassing are strong departures from what many new gamers have become accustomed to.”

The current PDF is for the 10th printing of DCC RPG.

I've seen a few mentions here now regarding the fact that the pdf is locked, and thus can't be bookmarked . Is there any way to get updates that do not have the lock? Not being able to add bookmarks in a book like this is a large problem.

If you do another printing, I hope you will correct the 47 instances of "they" not being capitalized at the start of a sentence. Just search ". they" in the PDF. Also, there are 34 instances of "their" that are not capitalized. Search ". their".

About the 10th printing. I don't have anything against gender neutral writing, but this needs to be done correctly. Here there is a just a quick search and replace his/her by their ... And this is not working.
Example Jim Roslof or in all the descriptions of the modules at the end of the book ...

I think it's proof English needs a singular version of "they/them/their". Using a plural word for everything sounds a bit awkward sometimes. My native language is Filipino, and in our language we only have 1 word to encapsulate all genders, split into two versions. Singular (siya) and plural (sila).

Locked PDF, and that ugly watermark with my name on every page.

I guess I'll download a pirated copy.

If the watermark is in the margins, try printing to another PDF and zooming enough to get to the edge of content and eliminate the watermark. Then, print again to another PDF by zooming out the same amount. This has worked for me on some PDFs I've purchased with the margin watermark. Keep in mind this doesn't delete the watermark, it's just that it's outside the bounding box/printable/visible area of the document. It might still show up on landscape pages. I understand why they use the watermark, but I agree that it's ugly and annoying.

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a very ingenious approach. I still find my solution much easier.

"I understand why they use the watermark"

I sincerely don't. It demonstrably doesn't stop piracy. In fact, it incentivises it by annoying customers. I paid for this, and it's ruined. And the file is also locked, so I can't edit the bookmarks – for example – without breaking the lock. That's just anti-user nonsense. Pirates know how to remove locks and watermarks.

Been scrounging old school designs recently. I think this is all that needs to be said.

“This isn’t your father’s D&D…it’s your batsh*t crazy uncles’ D&D"

Very accurate.

What I'm looking at, is 488 pages of NOT printer friendly content :) This pdf will slurp back on your ink like a man just crawling out of the desert thinking your printer is a water flask :)
Will ya like the design? it depends. It's crude and rude and OLD school. The point of the design is in the name. It's hack and slash and treasures. It's magic and monsters and basic swordplay. I didn't see much need for Charisma, and you won't get much use out of social skills. It looks more about being in a dungeon and less in a back alley of a city.

But come on, it's called Dungeon Crawl Classics :)
I plan to brutally rip out the pages lost to art (not saying the art is bad). Anything to trim down 488 pages to a bit less.
I might like a hardcover, but only if it...See more

For anyone looking to redeem the code for the free PDF in the physical book, you have to add this book to your cart and click the "checkout" button. On the next page there will be a spot for you to input the code and it should give you 100% off.

Just bought the physical hardcopy with the free coupon code for the PDF. However none of the PDFs could be downloaded, keep getting "FAILED - {"error":"The requested source file could not be found.: /data/rawpdfs/rpg/Goodman Games/DCC_RPG_8thPrinting_screenRes.pdf"}. Very unfortunate that this didn't work.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
