Many people in fantasy times can’t read, or if they can read normally, they can’t read the local language.
So to make things easier for all, each tavern also has a symbol. The taverns symbol normally matches up with the name.
So if one place was called The Frog & Bucket, then the symbol would be…a frog in a bucket.
