Motobushido: The Motorcycle-Samurai RPG

Motobushido is a tabletop role-playing game about brotherhood, sacrifice, and death - all part of the Motorcycle Samurai lifestyle. In this game, you and a group of your friends play a pack of motorcycle-riding samurai in the years after a great war ravaged the land - a war that your side lost. You are the last of a dying breed of warriors. As motobushi you travel a hostile world that rejects your ideals, and tell the stories of your trials and adventures.

In other words, Motobushido is a game about really sweet duels between really cool samurai who ride really awesome motorcycles. It's Sons of Anarchy starring Toshiro Mifune, underscored by Bushido Blade. Its mechanics are custom-written to emulate the core intensity of high-stakes dueling, using playing cards as the primary tool of resolution.

Join the Pack, heed the call of the Highway, and ride forth into glory as motobushi.

Author's Note, February 2015: Second Revised Printing is now available! Typos and little offsets fixed in the print version.

Author's Note, Late November 2013: This product was successfully Kickstarted in late 2012, and I'm thrilled to present it for sale here in its completness. The "softcover B&W" print version is what I've been calling the "whitebook" format, and presents the entire rulebook, complete with art, in a grayscale layout. The "full" standard version is also now finally available, with gorgeous fully-colored art from the talented Rick Marcks. Thank you for your interest and patronage! - NPC

A lot of the characters’ and setting’s history is created by the players. You don’t use dice but two decks of playing cards, one for the Sensei and one for the players. Most actions can be merely narrated; you only use the cards when it’s time [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
