Note: This was previously published as Blood and Smoke: the Strix Chronicle, now retitled with a new cover and an index.

Updated and revised core rule book for Vampire: The Requiem.

Tonight, you become one of the Kindred, the beautiful and the damned who hide behind our ordinary world. Driven by a hunger like fire, you will struggle to maintain your humanity while immersed in a vicious society of monsters.

Featuring Blood and Smoke: the Strix Chronicle.

The sharks you swim with aren’t the only ones out there. Your Kindred are the smart, sexy vampires of pop culture, but you are haunted by the Strix -- the grisly, demon-possessed corpses of folklore. They slaughtered the Night-Senate of Rome, drowned the tombs of the Princes of Alexandria, and warred with the Plague Lords of Transylvania.

Tonight, they’re loose on the streets of your city. Time for the sinners to become the saints, and the hunters to become the prey.

Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition contains:

  • A complete guide to playing a vampire in the World of Darkness. No other rulebooks are required, and the rules are fully compatible with The God-Machine Chronicle.
  • Reimagined clans, covenants, and supernatural powers to create your perfect monster... and her friends and foes.
  • A first-ever look at vampire domains around the world, from Tokyo to Berlin.
  • Twenty unique Strix, as well as complete rules for building your own.
Note on the Print Editions: Standard Color uses a thinner paper stock than Premium Color, basically the same paper as the Black & White books. This usually means the colors are less vivid, but it also means the price drops a bit per page in the production process. Examples of pages: Premium Color vs. Standard Color.

Also available for Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition:

Check out the Strix Chronicle Fiction Anthology a collection that unveils the schemes and atrocities of Kindred and Strix alike. These are the tales of those whom even monsters fear.

The Vampire: the Requiem 2nd Edition Condition Cards are also available to provide an easy and fun way to use Conditions at your gaming table.

The differences:
- A new cover.
- An addition to the special thanks.
- Changes to the introduction to reflect the change in title.
- Some typo corrections.
- Added a previously missing heading in the Conditions appendix.
- An index.

In addition to being in the end of the PDF, the index can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AeeXfbNQ6JOwdpuNMdrIX0OeIR6bnlRvIyBLs4Cfzi0/edit?usp=sharing

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot R. B

The index is very very very usefull !!!
I gonna check the conditions appendix soon.
As english is not my native language, i'm not sure i really undertand this sentence relative to Mekhet Clan Bane : "This bane counts toward the three banes a vampire is allowed". So when reaching Humanity 6, a Mekhet MUST choose a bane, that's ok. But is he allowed ultimately 3 or 4 banes other than collectives banes ? I tried translators on internet but the meaning of "toward" is unclear to me. I still have a doubt. In my idea it seems that a Mekhet can't have more than 3 individuals banes neither, like other clans but must have at least one of them (well and that's a good thing as 3 banes tend to be very difficult to play !!!).

Your understanding that a Mekhet can't have more than three banes is correct. :)

I bought the PDF when it was Blood and Smoke. It says I don't own this now. Is there any way to get a copy of the new and improved PDF?

What exactly changed from the earlier version of the PDF? I'd scanned a copy of a friends, but I am not sure if it's worth buying my own copy of the new and improved version.

Did they fix bugs from earlier version? I mean, if I'll take PoD now - will it be the exact version of book, that was released in december, or better version with errata?

It's the version we released in late January, after we solicited errata on our forums and made additional tweaks to the layout and content.

Blood and Smoke is VtR001. We've changed numbering schemes since we don't need the White Wolf inventory system anymore.

Are any of the books in the Requiem line made obsolete (rules wise) by this book? Other than the core book.

This book replaces the Carthian Law and Invictus Oaths mechanics from the covenant books. Combat auras and Tilts, a small part of The Danse Macabre, require adjustment to work, and some other rules from DM are incorporated in revised forms into this core. (Updated Tilts that are fully compatible with this book are in the free God-Machine Chronicle Rules Update.) Some of the rules in Ordo Dracul still work, but don't fit the new Coil model.

Other than that, most existing rules work. You'll have to eyeball a few things when you want to use rules that affect combat, Humanity loss, or Virtue and Vice, but that's pretty easy.

Files have been submitted to the PoD printer. After they've looked them over, they'll send proofs to Onyx Path for page-by-page inspection. If those are right, then we'll launch the PoD book.

I use most of Look's house rules and it gives W:tF the kick in the pants it needs. The rules turned a game my group somewhat enjoyed to our favorite setting (and we play a lot of different RPGs). But man I cannot wait to see the first bits of info coming out about Idigam Chronicle! :D

Loved the book well worth the purchase.

For someone like myself ,who has been playing with requiem for sometime now ,it is a breath of fresh air to see
some of the things that i was not completely fond of in the original has changed for the better with this book.

i look forward to the hardcover to add to the collection on my book shelf .

And i hope a Methuselah book in the not to distant future......oh god please a Methuselah book.

Haven't read through it all yet but I'm cautiously positive. I like the mechanical changes but the writing feels a bit too pop-culturally savvy. The grand thing about Vampire the Recquiem (for me at least) was that the books read like documentaries, little windows into this civilisation hidden behind our own. Blood and Smoke feels like reading a book about a setting, not about a world.

It seems like a compromise between Masquerade and Recquiem and while I understand what people like about this, I loved how serious VtR took itself.

I guess I should add that I love the God-Machine Chronicles, this is a bit too cool and sexy.

All of the rules needed to play are included. You don't need the WoD rulebook or the GMC. The included rules are completely compatible with GMC, though.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
