¿$2.39 solo para leer básicamente algo como "has lo que tu quieras, pero ten en cuenta no incomodar a tus jugadores"?

Good supplement, although i was surprised it was only 14 pages. Those 14 pages are very well written and interesting. Most RPG supplements that deal with sex can be really... Strange, this one was a delightful change and gave me some ideas for my games :)

I am not a Numenera player, though bought this as a curiosity, i think it is priced a little high for 14 pages, but i am not disappointed nor do i regret the purchase. If the same author released a more thorough guide book on the topic i would likely be interested also :)

I've found one part of this book somewhat confusing, and was wondering if someone could clear up for me. It says that becoming pregnant is a Level 5 Task involving two people; which I understand under normal circumstances, but two situations come to mind where I can't wrap my head around a sensible way to handle.
1st: Two PCs are involved, which person rolls this Task?

2nd: In the event where a PC is in a situation in which they don't want to become pregnant at all, but there is a feasible chance that there would be an accidental pregnancy (One-Night Stand, Bastard Child with a illegitimate lover, an encounter with a known Nibovian Wife, etc.), how should you mitigate this (assuming that GM Intrusion seems too heavy handed and/or inappropriate).

To answer your first question, in the games my group runs it's usually players who decide if they are going to romance each other and if they do the dm allows for them to say they did it. If it's a PC and NPC then the person who trying to seduce gets to roll. As for getting pregnant the DM rolls 2 d10 and if it comes up doubles then female character is pregnant if double 0 you have twins. It's worked out pretty well for us so far. Not to mention our DM likes to make it a surprise when we find out.

Now your second question can mostly be answered the same way. Truthfully let the players metagame wether or not they want to sleep with someone make it clear that if they sleep with some there's a chance of getting pregant (if that applies in the situation of course) usually if a player knows ahead of time they will take precatuion. Also if they say they're using protection of somesort then it cancels pregnancy. As for the act itself, because believe or not people have asked me, it's like tv just fade to...See more

I've looked through many a supplement that deals with sex and romance in RPGs and this one in particular is very well written and appropriate. You are already presenting a universe rather foreign to our culture and traditions. Anything that brings clarity to the perception of that universe is a good thing. As for the appropriateness of the material- I, for one, dearly need to know what sort of background my characters spring from. Even if sex and romance never occur in a campaign, knowing how they work is essential to the realistic creation of characters. Good going, people!

Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff. I'm sorry that I missed that in the list. I was attempting to be concise (unfortunately, a list like that can go on forever because of the myriad issues that can arise at the table), but it would have been a more inclusive list if i've listed misandry as well.

I just grabbed this and read it. As with all the supplements from the Numenera line, this is excellent, thought-provoking, and takes a slightly edgier approach than many of the "Softer" roleplaying games I've read lately in discussing the topic. It does so without forcing anything, however, offering some solid advice on when and how to bring these topics to bear in your games (or to leave them out). Short review? A solid supplement, well worth the price of admission. Well done, folks!

C'mon guys! You can't think this is legit. I love role-playing and sometimes we key on romantic relationships in a scenario but a whole book on it is really pandering to an already socially awkward crowd. Numenera is from a respected writer with a evocative genre and world. Don't belittle it by phoning it in for a few bucks that many fans will buy "just because" it is Numenera it is is about Sex!

Todd, it's a 13-page book. Hardly something that is indicative of the tone of an entire game line or setting. And since you haven't read it: it covers more than sex. It talks about love, gender roles, courtship, marriage, etc. All sorts of things that a) are valid elements of storylines, and b) help flesh out the world as a whole, which helps you tell more immersive stories.

Monte and his team are well-respected, and writing about sex and love isn't going to change that in the grand scheme of things. Sure, some people aren't interested in this book, but others obviously are.

L&S is a really daring and original little glimmer. Its the best one yet imho and required reading for anyone who wants to be considered a complete game master. The thing to understand is that a *lot* of players and game masters want to explore themes of romance in their games but have almost zero guidance from gaming companies about how to go about this in their campaign worlds, much less how to do so with respect for players' sensitivities and trust. There simply isn't an arena of narrative tabletop rpg gaming that is more neglected.

Fair enough. Perhaps I was wrong to go on the attack (not sure why 'romantic' was replaced by 'combat' in the repost). I still think we don't need to cover this, love and mostly sex, in an RPG supplement but if others wish to buy, that's their own choice.

I want to hear, Todd, _why_ you think publishers "don't need to cover ... love and mostly sex" in supplements. They are part of storytelling, character motivation, and worldbuilding.

Also, since you haven't bought this book, I'm offering to buy you a copy so you can read it.

To be honest, I thought 'Monte Cook Games' was just taking advantage of their popularity to sell a book I saw little value in it. Obviously I was wrong. Many are interested in roleplaying these subjects more extensively than I do. To each his/her own. Thanks for the offer but I'm not actually reading/playing Numenera right now. I am focused on an Interface Zero 2.0 campaign and a fledgling Firefly game built with Fate Core RPG.

Once again....my apologies and happy RPGing!!!

This "dumbest thing" called love and romance is one of the most common reasons why people do stuff in real life. History knows multiple examples of empires falling down, or major military conflicts, all which were started because someone had romantic interest in someone else. Not to mention romance is one of key elements in things like espionage.

Really, the "love and sex" is awfully omitted in most RPGs, mostly because of young people playing who don't feel comfortable with such topics (partly because they don't have any real experience themselves), but with adult gamer groups, this can add a lot of good roleplaying and story elements to the game.
