ASPECTS of FANTASY

A fantasy roleplaying game that takes the familiar D20 rules system and updates it with rules and concepts from the popular Fate rules engine

In Aspects of Fantasy you will find:

  • A streamlined version of the D20 system
  • Rules for using aspects and fate points with characters, equipment, adventuring parties, and creatures
  • Quick character creation rules with 8 races, 8 classes and a number of backgrounds and traits
  • Rules for using fate points as a commodity to power traits and maneuvers
  • Critical and fumble rules along with an easy to use skill system
  • A D20 magic system that better integrates with aspects and fate points along with over 150+ spells
  • Conversion information for using Aspects of Fantasy with your Pathfinder and D20 products, along with a dozen sample creatures to get you started

Aspects of Fantasy can be used to integrate elements of Fate into any version of your favorite fantasy roleplaying game, or it can be used as a way introduce your D20/Pathfinder players to concepts in the Fate rules system.

I really like what I've read so far. I made a character and leveled her up all the way to level 10 (just so I can get a feel for it myself and figure out things. That's how my brain works.) But I wish there was a physical copy available. hardback, paperback, don't matter. I like having physical books available so having one available for purchase would make my day.

I'd like to second this request. It would be great if we can get a print on demand of this game.

I suggest you make an appendix entry for skills. List skill and attribute at a minimum, or add the different actions as well. If you don't you probably need to add it to the character sheet. Players and GM need to have a quick reference at the table.

I do have a skill and attribute table at the beginning of the skills chapter (page 67), but I can add it to the appendix.

There doesn't seem to be a description of the various energy types and their secondary affects? I found this out when I looked at Element Manipulation as a trait for Wizard.

Why didn't you choose to use the 4 actions from Fate Core?

Design decision and feedback from my players. I wanted to integrate elements from Fate yet still have a game that most D20/OSR players would be familiar with.

Background for Mage under Wizard. It gives Arcane Focus as one of the traits. Arcane Focus is already one of the starting traits for Mage. What should we replace it with? When giving Background traits it would be easier to understand if you used semi-colons to set off the different traits listed otherwise when you add the word OR it sounds as if they only get one trait.

Sorry about that. Replace Arcane Focus with either 'Magic of White OR Elemental Manipulation'. I'll update the PDF.

As for the semi-colons, I have to agree. I'll update when I update the Wizard traits. Thanks for the feedback!

No, not forgotten, just delayed. 'Life issues' have put the physical book on the back burner, but I should be able to get it out by the end of November. Thanks for the interest.

This looks like a cool idea and a crisp execution. I'd like to see a bit of the interior art in your preview as well if possible. In the meantime, it's definitely going on my Wish List and I'll be reading future Reviews.

I wish the preview was maybe the introduction chapter or something other then the table of contents...

Chris,

I used the Table of Contents because it shows everything that's in the game (it's a pretty thorough Table of Contents, imo). But it's easy enough to change. I just updated the full size preview so that it shows the Introduction and part of Chapter 1. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for the interest!

Good man. Having something to read, even just a couple pages, helps get a feel for the entire tone of the book, just like flipping through a physical book.

That's one I found, admittedly after a little Google acrobatics. Looks fiddly but informative.
I normally get a vibe for a game from its character sheet, since it tends to present exactly how much things needs tracking and how much info you need to produce in order to get a working character. Also, it sort of directs the reading experience, in the way that you look for what to put on your character sheet, rather than read clean through.

Is there anywhere to look at the character sheet?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
