The Collectors: The Burning House

The Collectors: The Burning House

ZIP File

by Thomas MacKay

Category: Roleplaying adventure
Genre: Supernatural mystery and menace
Page count: 81

The players portray demons sent to the mortal realm to fetch a soul that is owed to Him. That is, owed to the Master. The Chair. The Executive. The Home Office.

They have been given equipment and identities, and a task which seems at first glance very easy: simply locate the client, explain their purpose, and drag him--kicking and screaming if necessary--back to Processing.

Of course, things are never that easy. . . .

The Burning House is a preliminary adventure that represents a "first job" for a pair of newly incarnated collectors. It can serve as a stand-alone adventure, or as the jumping off point for a campaign, usually in the form of a series of jobs that are given to them by the Home Office (Hell).

The Collectors: The Burning House uses the Fudge system, and contains all the rules needed to play. Fudge's adjective-based trait system also makes this adventure easily convertible to any other game system.

This may well be my single best RPG-related read ever. In my humble opinion, the material presented in The Collectors is novel-worthy. LIKED: This game allows players to portray demons while brilliantly avoiding most of the theme's "c [...]

OK, I really like the background in this game. It is cool. But what has completely turned me off from this book is the included adventure, which has a homosexuality theme. When I saw this, this book kind of got put in the back of my shelf. QU [...]

An excellent Fudge product, presenting simples rules for a usable Fudge setting (modified modern-day) along with a very good starter adventure. Excellent as an introduction to Fudge, and The Collectors setting is easily adaptable. I forward to any [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
