Dungeon Crawl Classics #10: The Sunless Garden

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Watermarked PDF
$6.99

An adventure for character levels 6-8

Remember the good old days, when adventures were underground, NPCs were there to be killed, and the finale of every dungeon was the dragon on the 20th level? Those days are back. Dungeon Crawl Classics don't waste your time with long-winded speeches, weird campaign settings, or NPCs who aren't meant to be killed. Each adventure is 100% good, solid dungeon crawl, with the monsters you know, the traps you fear, and the secret doors you know are there somewhere.

After arriving at a seemingly abandoned trading post, the heroes discover to their horror that all the inhabitants have been transformed into black trees! Upon further investigation, they find clues that lead them to the hidden lair of Nockmort, a treant gone bad. Nockmort has been transformed by the strange radiation of a meteorite he discovered, and now he is a terrible force of evil. The characters must enter his sunless garden to save the town. And along the way they just might discover fabulous treasure...

Features:

  • A unique dungeon dive that pits the characters against a deranged treant and his bizarre mutant allies
  • 53 keyed encounter areas covering a wide range of encounters
  • An "easter egg" built into the adventure... if you figure it out, tell us!
If you enjoy this adventure, be sure to look for the rest of the Dungeon Crawl Classics line! This is only one of many great adventures, such as DCC #5: Aerie of the Crow God, which received a nomination for Best Adventure in the 2004 ENnie Awards. This has a good idea/plotline, somewhat off the beaten path. I enjoyed reading it, but I am no longer involved with RPG's, so I can't comment on how well it went when I ran it. It is well written, it has an interesting plot, and back drop. I thought [...]

We just played this in my campaign. I dropped it into an adventure already going. It was a great side trip. The module worked well. The adventurers like it and found the sea hag quite a difficult case. If I run it again, I would redraw it with [...]

I like the whole concept of this line of adventures. One of the things I've really disliked about the direction adventures have gone now days is the need for writers to fill in an entire region around every module. I don't need that. I have my own [...]

Excellent! The villian in this one is set to be quite memorable if played right while the "side encounters" are lively enough to give players a difficult and deadly challenge. Like most of these dungeon crawls you'll need to liven it up with [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
