Dungeon Crawl Classics #6: Temple of the Dragon Cult

An adventure for character levels 8-10

Remember the good old days, when adventures were underground, NPCs were there to be killed, and the finale of every dungeon was the dragon on the 20th level? Those days are back. Dungeon Crawl Classics don't waste your time with long-winded speeches, weird campaign settings, or NPCs who aren't meant to be killed. Each adventure is 100% good, solid dungeon crawl, with the monsters you know, the traps you fear, and the secret doors you know are there somewhere.

In Temple of the Dragon Cult, the characters are called in to pursue a dragon that the king's army was able to wound but not kill. It seems straightforward enough: the army tracked the dragon to its lair, and all the characters have to do is go in and kill it. But this dragon has a devoted cult of dragonblood followers who worship its every breath. Its lair is their temple -- and they'll fight to the death to defend their dragon-god...

Dungeon Crawl Classics can be integrated easily with any fantasy setting. If you enjoy this adventure, you might also enjoy the rest of the Dungeon Crawl Classics series.

If you enjoy this adventure, be sure to look for the rest of the Dungeon Crawl Classics line! This is only one of many great adventures, such as DCC #5: Aerie of the Crow God, which received a nomination for Best Adventure in the 2004 ENnie Awards. Hey pogre here. Sad to say, but this is my least favorite of the DCCs I have purchased. The whole premise of following a wounded dragon back to its lair works until you discover there is a druid that is one of its minions - why isn't the dragon healed? [...]

One of the things I like about the DCC series is that they are easy to insert into a campaign due to the lack of specific background (by intent, I assume). This one has a slightly different feel to many of the others - it's got a smaller range but [...]

Entertaining and fun adventure; I look forward to picking up each new Dungeon Crawl Classic as they come out. Makes me remember my formative years of roleplaying with a smile, and my current group likes them too :) [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
