Description:

Visira. The City of Sorrows, in the dread realm of the Black Sword. Whose narrow streets echo tortured cries and the cruel whippings from taskmasters. Where the air is thick with the stench of blood and decay. It is a haven to the vile, the wicked, and the amoral. Where gold can buy anything, and life has the least value of all...

Visira is a powerfully detailed fantasy city sourcebook that is immediately usable in any campaign. While designed with unsavory elements, Visira is not a wholly evil city. Whether you're looking for a city to serve as your adventurers' headquarters, as your villain's base, or as the elaborate backdrop for countless adventures, Visira meets the challenge.

128 pages; 8.5" x 11"

Contents include:

  • Over 100 detailed d20 System â„¢ NPC residents.
  • 26 aerial maps of Visira: 13 full color and 13 black & white designed for easy printing.
  • Seven intricately described city wards.
    1. Arena's Hold - the warrior's realm of fighting pits, the gladiators' arena, and the corrupt gambling halls of the Black Thumb.
    2. East Wash - Visira's oldest ward, in ruins from the floods of the Venom River.
    3. Hillside - the tiered layers of the bluffs and the crust, dominated by Visira Keep and the citadel of Eteris.
    4. Huckster Sprawl - a twisting maze where danger awaits the unwary, and the Rake terrorize with impunity.
    5. Old Harbor - the ancient warf, torn and sinking, unchallenged domain of the lizardfolk Harvesters.
    6. South Levee - filled with the bazaars of the Farmers' Market, and the garrison compounds of the Cannibals.
    7. Waterfront - where pirates and merchants clash against the enigmatic Mariners Bevy, and the blue-skinned pleasure women of the Scarlet Veil capture the secrets of all.
  • The seven deities prominent within the city.
  • From the Trail of Tears, short stories recount tales of life in Visira:
    1. An Unholy Land
    2. Into Evil's Heart
    3. The Price of Business
    4. Broken Bones
    5. The Hunting
    6. The Reach of Revenge

Nice city supplement. The Darkfuries people do a capable job and then some of providing setting materials like these. Visira is not one of my more favorite pieces, but it does contain basic elements needed if the city meets your needs. [...]

I was really disappointed with the very simple-looking maps (campared to the beautiful ones of the old Mystara Campaigns). And chunks of the product content consists of poorly written short stories, which you must painfully wade through to get to the [...]

Like the other Maelstrom Campaign products, very impressive. A great deal of information and good looking maps. And, once again, more than enough d20 information but also easily used by those who play other systems. QUALITY: Excellent [...]

What a gem! This product, Visira, The City of Shadows by Brian Moseley (Darkfuries) is a must have for any campaign. Fantasy cities completely detailed to this extent are almost non-existent. 128 pages of well organized and thought out information [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
