by Steven Schend

The wonders of alchemy and the earthy goodness of herbalism have long been a draw in fantasy games. Alchemy & Herbalists takes these core elementals of medieval fantasy and brings them to life within the d20 rules. Updated for v3.5, A&H provides everything players and Game Masters need to incorporate alchemy and herbalism into their campaigns.

Master alchemists and herbalists have many secrets to reveal, but only those who strive to become truly skilled at their craft can hope to master the art of creating the most powerful of talismans.

Wondering what awaits you in Alchemy & Herbalists? In addition to an in-depth discussion of bringing alchemy and herbalism into your campaign, A&H provides 5 new prestige classes (black alchemist, red alchemist, white alchemist, tarastan herbalist, tarastan apothecary), 2 new schools (one for both alchemy and herbalism), a 14-page herbal catalog, 15 new feats and information on how current feats and skills augment the alchemy and herbalism creation processes, and the Catalog of Wonders that details more than 150 new items that can be created with the Craft (Alchemy) and Profession (Herbalist) skills. Three new monsters (alchemunculus, erlmantle, and the kin-o-the-green template) also await you.

What the Reviewers Say...

"I have to give Bastion Press credit for this one. The knowledge and abilities in this book are amazing. The designer went out of his way in doing the research involving alchemy and herbalism. Then he took the real world knowledge and converted it into game knowledge that is useful and workable in game-play." -- by Kragshot@GamingReport.com

"If any other d20 publishers have these subjects on their schedule, take them off! This book covers every topic in massive detail and provides good, solid d20 rules for everything PCs could want on the subject. " -- by Jeff Ibach@Role-Play News

"If you wish to expand the scope of these skills, add a new level of detail to your game, or just introduce new types of magical items, you’ll find it all inside Alchemy & Herbalists." -- by Kithmaker@Mortality

A great tome regarding alchemy and herbalism. I was looking for something a little more geared towards herbal healing and the likes and didn't get it, but it's a good standalone source book. LIKED: It's actually very thorough and well pres [...]

Wow. Just wow. So good. A+++ WOULD BUY AGAIN. If you like alchemy or herbalism, buy this book, even if you aren't intending to use it for tabletop gaming (I'm using it for LARP source material.) LIKED: A Ken Burns-like level of detail [...]

Loved the print 3.0 version; love the expanded 3.5 electronic version. The be-all end-all for lists of magical alchemical/herbalist items (though the extra class and crafting rules in the book should probably be dumped). LIKED: The herbal [...]

I had the 3.0 version and thought 3.5 would never be released. Still has great information for both herbalism and alchemy. Wish there were more books like this one. LIKED: Everything. Prestige classes, various plants are two of the [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
