The Best at What They Do...

...and what they do isn't very pretty. Go back to the grim days of the 1980s and '90s, when super-vigilantes in leather and chains dispensed harsh justice on the mean streets. Iron Age looks at the darkest era of comic book history and how you can bring it to life in your Mutants & Masterminds game.

In this book you'll find a history of the Iron Age of comics, an overview of the period, how to create and run Iron Age characters and games, and much more, including:

  • Heroes! Ten new ready-to-play hero archetypes, including the Vigilante, the Ninja, the Demon of Vengeance, and the Gun-Toting Mutant from the Future!
  • Villains! Eight new deadly villain archetypes to threaten your Iron Age heroes, each with two or more adventure hooks to play. They include the Crime Boss, the Evil Ninja, the Supernatural Menace, and the Metahuman Dictator.
  • Freedom City! Details on the Iron Age of Green Ronin's award-winning Freedom City campaign setting. Go up against the corrupt Moore administration, meet up with the vigilantes of FORCE Ops, and take on the worst criminal scum in the city, from the crime lord Augustus Roman to the Fearsome and RIOT!

Iron Age also features the adventure Bad Medicine; get your series started with a bang as the heroes take on drug-pushers, the Mob, sinister mega-corporations and the menace of RIOT!

Iron Age is a shotgun blast of super-powered crime, betrayal, and vengeance. It ain’t pretty, but someone has to clean up the streets. So the only question is...

...Do You Feel Lucky, Bub?

The Good: I may be a little biased because this happens to be my favorite age in comics since it was my introduction. The breakdown on the history of Iron Age is fantastic! It accurately goes down the finer points of what led to the Iron Age, and cover [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
