Author: James Thomson

Publisher: Plain Brown Wrapper Games

Pages: 400

Product Type: M&M Superlink Campaign Setting

Take a trip back to the Iron Age of comics and visit  Bedlam City. It’s the smaller, dirtier and more dangerous town next door to your campaign’s shining metropolis, presented here in lavish detail. Weighing in at a whopping 400 pages, this book is crammed with dozens of NPCs, adventure seeds and locations, with enough back-stories and plot arcs to keep your PCs playing for years.

We know that the grim and sordid “Iron Age” of comics isn’t everyone’s cup of filth, so even though Bedlam will support an extended campaign, we’ve designed it to fit seamlessly into nearly any superhero game world, as a place your heroes can go to have darker, grubbier adventures for a change of pace.

So buckle on your body armor, clench your cigar between your stubbly jaws and set your clock back to an age of iron! Fight the Mafia on the gloomy streets of Stark Hill. Battle the gangs in Wolverton. Face down the sinister cult called the Mara in the back alleys of Hardwick Park.  Walk the toxic, deserted streets of the Country Club and see what has taken up residence there, or go to war with the secret overlords of Greely Point.

What are you waiting for?  Bedlam is calling! There's a shadowy, trash-strewn rooftop out there somewhere with your name on it…

Bedlam City is a fantastic setting book, packed with information and flavor. It is in many ways the antithesis of Freedom City. Its tone is relentlessly grim and thoroughly Iron Age, unafraid to tackle uncomfortable issues but with just enough spots of [...]

I'm running a campaign in Bedlam City right now, and having a blast with all the excesses of the Iron Age but the technology/supers of the modern era. Excellent work. Lots of information here--this is a huge book. There are story ideas on nearly every [...]

I recently purchased Bedlam City. I should mention that I normally despise Iron Age settings, but I had an idea that I wanted to try out for a story-arc in my campaign, so I decided to try Bedlam out. I have to say, this is one of the best superhero rolep [...]

Bedlam City is a grim and gritty setting with a black sense of humor. The book itself is rather large, coming in at 400 pages thoroughly detailing the important parts of the City’s history, neighborhoods, government, culture, crime, villains, and lots [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
