Big Bang Ricochet - WW2 Collection: Type 94 Te-Ke Tokushu Keninsha

The Type 94 Te-Ke Tokushu Keninsha was one of the first mass produced armored vehicles manufactured by Japan. It was preceded by the Type 92 Jyu-Sokosha tankette, the Type 89 I-Go medium tank, and a number of armored cars. Originally designed to function as an armored tractor to transport ammunition and supplies across the active battlefield, the Type 94 Tokushu Keninsha ("Special Tractor") found life and duty far beyond this meager but dangerous task. Built as a basic machine gun carrier as a means of defending itself, the Type 94 Te-Ke excelled in use as a midget tank, rapidly finding its way into reconnaissance and cavalry formations. Other, more specialized units were built to both deploy chemical weapons as well as decontaminate the battlefield. With more than 800 built, the Type 94 and its variants accounted for roughly half of all Chokei Sensha (tanks weighing less than 5,000 kg, usually referred to elsewhere in the world as tankettes) built to the end of the war.

The Type 94 Te-Ke played many important roles in the Japanese military, functioning as a vital asset in the battlefields of mainland Asia. In China, it defeated foes endlessly until the fiasco of Khalkin Ghol demonstrated how far behind Japan's technological growth had stagnated. In Singapore, it navigated jungles and swamp the British though impassable by any sort of vehicle. In the Philippines, it crossed unsupported bridges and ferries that would have been destroyed by virtually any other "light" tank in service around the globe. And in Burma, it navigated narrow roads and mountainside tracks considered unusuable by anything other than motorcycles and pack animals.

This document fully details the Type 94 Te-Ke tankette, plus the Type 91 and Type 97 tank machine guns that armed it. Appendices providing information compatible with D20 Modern, Spycraft 2.0, and Savage Worlds is included.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
