Description:

"Here there be dragons!" exclaimed the old Dwarven warrior, tapping on the map with the hook that had long ago replaced his hand. Korag and his friends started getting excited because all of the legends said that where there were dragons, you were sure to find treasure...

Onwards to new and exciting adventures! Novus is a brand new role-playing game from Firehawk Games.

Firehawk Games did not set out to re-invent the fireball, it tried to make a fun and flexible game that can easily be adapted to many different styles of role-playing and many different settings. Firehawk Games wants to give you an old school experience with modern, up to date rules, and we believe that Novus fits the bill perfectly.

With Novus, everything you need to start gaming is in one small book.

  • 6 Player Races - All of the classics; Human, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Half-Elf and Half-Orc.
  • 8 Backgrounds - Everything from Barbarian to Upper Class Urban.
  • 8 Character Classes - Each Class has some degree of customizability allowing for each character to be unique. The 2 Mage Classes allow for up to 21 different types of Mages, each as customizable as the other Classes. The Archer, Fighter, Martial Artist, Minstrel, & Dual Mage are just a few of the possibilities.
  • Dozens of Spells - spread among 6 Schools of Magic and the Universal Spells that any character is able to learn.
  • 40+ Monsters - including Demons, Devils, Dragons and many more, all waiting to be unleashed on your players.
  • Snag & Boons - This allows you, the player, to take controls of your character's own destiny when it comes to fumbles, failures and exceptional successes.

Note: This is the Deluxe Version of Novus. It currently contains bookmarks, internal hyperlinks, artwork and a full index.

Note: The full text of this product can be previewed from the Table of Contents on the Firehawk Games website.

A while back, I thought to myself that I'd take the chassis of Dungeons & Dragons 3.x and fiddle with it a bit. Remove classes and levels, make it even more skill-based, switch from d20 to 2d10 for the bell curve and to do something interesting with the [...]

I'm surprised how GM firendly and versatile Novus engine is. With additional Libram Novuses I'd tell that is as adjustable and tweakable as Fate Core but more crunchy. And still is very easy to learn and to GM. It'll be my default choice for the fantasy [...]

This is going to be a great game when all is said and done. I can see the influence of the "ROLEMASTER" family of games in this product. Specifically HARP. I look forward to seeing what will come up in future upgrades of the game while it is still in [...]

It is perhaps fitting that Novus's name almost makes one think of "novice", since it is very much geared towards a novice group, in a good way. My one gripe about Novus is that it's nothing I haven't seen before. It feels like a crossbreed of d20 and [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
