Draining the last few gulps of a frothy ale, you happen to overhear a pair of weather-worn fishermen discussing a curious site they saw several days ago. Intrigued by their conversation, you purchase them a round of drinks and ply the old sea dogs for more information. You soon learn that two days sail east is a huge sprawling mat of dangerous sargassum weed. According to the fishermen, the bed is truly gargantuan, stretching for more than a league in any direction. However, this is not the interesting bit, for swamped in the thick morass of sargassum weed, the fishermen claim to have seen the burned remains of the Leeward District of Caradin!
Caradin, the city built upon the seas, a lashed-together mass of ancient warships, merchant galleys, cogs, caravels, and barges. You had heard that the city was recently sacked by the Reforgule and his evil minions, but if these fishermen tell the truth, the Leeward District of Caradin, including the City Mint, broke free of the burning city and drifted off into the sargassum tangle. A city mint must be filled to overflowing with gold, silver, and precious metals! All you have to do is convince these fellows to tell you how to get there! Of course, safely navigating around the sargassum will be difficult, and dealing with anything that is already there might be a challenge...but, that is why adventurers travel in a group right?
This map set and area index are meant to be a generic framework suitable for virtually any gaming system. With a minimum of work, a gamemaster can input creature stat blocks, toss in a few interesting treasure bits, flesh out a few big scenes and PRESTO an instant classic adventure is born!
Arsenale Shipworks renders its maps in black and white with simple, yet detailed line drawings. Our idea is to give you a thought provoking and inspiring encounter location without draining every drop of ink from your printer. The relatively small file size and optional 'no grid' map makes them ideal for importing into virtual tabletops!
What you get is a map set designed with a 1" grid suitable for use with most 25mm - 28mm miniatures and RPG game systems that is set up to print on 24" x 36" sheet size. There are three full sized maps here; the main decks, the upper decks, and the below decks level. An identical set of three maps has been included with the grid turned off to make it easy for you to import the map into a virtual table top. Also, each full size map has been broken down into smaller 8 ½" x 11" sheet sizes to accommodate standard household printers. Each of the smaller sheets has a tiny overlap set up with its neighbor to facilitate taping them all together. And finally, for an extra bonus, we have included an Index to the Sargassum Tangle with a description of each of the 50 encounter areas and plenty of great little ideas to fuel a fantastic day of gaming!
