EPICS - Deserve to Survive! The old days when players could sit around the table, roll a few dice, and win the day (while barely paying attention) are gone. Now the players will have to think about their characters and role-play as well as fight, if they want to survive. This is the new age of gaming, where characters are designed as they are played. This is EPICS (the Easy, Player-Initiated Game System)! With one of the most original game systems in years, characters begin as basic concepts (with few scores), but are detailed more and more as they are played. The Actors receive Survival Points for thinking fast, good role-playing and adding detail to their characters. Other rules cover animals, equipment, super-powers and more. The system is simple enough for beginners but probably is best played by more experienced gamers who like to act as well as roll dice and kill monsters (although there are optional advanced rules for those who like to roll a lot of dice!). Simulating the "reality" of movies and comics, characters who have more "Influence" over the story are more likely to survive - as long as the player earns enough points by playing well. Don't be fooled - this is a new type of roleplaying system, not a hack job of some system before. Rules for character creation, skills, being wounded and even equipment are not what you are used to... there isn't even a score for life points! The game allows for super-fast character generation (less than a minute in some cases!), but characters grow through game play and become as detailed, if not more, than in other role-play game systems. Important characters can be created by the Director with many details - or thugs with just a few. Complete rules are provided to make up any kind of character, including those with super-powers. The EPICS system is all you should ever need to play, but there additional books in the works, including a book to help the Director run successful EPICS games, and adventure and world sourcebooks. (Dragonslayer Games is looking for writers to create material for the game! Only a little over half of this 50-page book contains the complete game rules. Included as the latter half of the book is an example game Setting, A.N.G.E.L.S., a dark world where heroes with rare inhuman powers struggle to fight against supernatural creatures and dark goverment plots. With a focus on role-playing over rolling dice, the EPICS system can easily be modified as a role-playing award system for other rpg games. Create any kind of character or world with EPICS!
