Dedicated to the loving memory of FDNY Lieutenants JOhn Crisci and John Napolitano
Who, along with hundreds of their fellow Firemen, EMS, NYPD and PAPD, sacrificed themselves in the greatest and most extraordinary rescue operation in history. September 11, 2001 will forever be known as the worst day in the history of our country. The unforgivable acts of terrorism upon the United States were matched only by the selfless acts of heroism by its citizens. This book is a testament to those who disregarded their own safety in order to save the lives of over 25,000 innocents. Our prayers go out to their families, and their loss will never be forgotten or taken for granted.
This was the hardest book I've ever published. Through glazed eyes I struggled with every page, wondering time and time again why this had to happen. I can't even find the right words to put into this letter.
Ana Ishikawa does not exist. She was not present to witness the devastation that was September 11th. I wondered if I was doing the right hting by putting her there, but I also felt that if I did, people would purchase the book and read the words of my friends.
I'd like to thank all of you for being a part of this experience, though we wish its catalyst never occured in the first place.
But it did, and so did an incredible outpouring of love.
Remember September 11th.
