The Future of Media

Entertainment in the 22nd century is a sensory extravaganza.  The media uses holograms, virtual reality and interactive interfaces to create a fully immersing experience.  People are no longer just "viewers," they're often participants!  The media game is more cutthroat than ever before, with entertainment wars being fought over a single ratings point.

Let Us Entertain You

The fourth Trinity Field Report, Media is a full-color setting dossier from Æon for all orders and operatives. It looks at the entertainment medium in the 2120s, from news to music to holosims.  See just how far media and entertainment permeate every aspect of 22nd-century society.

Hidden Lore

Release: The fourth in the Trinity Field Report minibook series, TFR: Media was originally published in April 1999, immediately after the new softcover Trinity rulebook. Although not the final TFR, it was the final one published traditionally.

The editor is listed as "Allison 'Smithee' Sturms." Although Allison Sturms is a real person, "Alan Smithee" is a well-known Hollywood pseudonym used when a director doesn't want their name attached to a project, often bcause they're disappointed in it.

This book is the first appearance of "Jake Danger: Aberrant Hunter," a series based on the stories of its namesake in the Aberrant War and its aftermath. In 2001's Adventure!, we learn that Jake Danger was, in reality, Jake "Danger Ace" Stefokowski, one of the founding members of the Æon Society in the 1920s. Jake Danger is depicted wearing a leather jacket and goggles, hints as to his true identity. An uncredited Matt Milberger portrays Jake Danger, a role he will reprise for the Adventure! rulebook.

Media also reveals that the host of OBC's Retrospective, Warren Shaw, who has been appearing in sidebars since the core rulebook, died in 2117. OBC scanned the previous 10 years of Retrospective episodes in order to create a Satisfactory Intelligence of Shaw, who has been hosting the show ever since.

A further page includes partial scans of late-twentieth century comics depicting superheroes called "novas." The hosting website is quickly shut down by Æon. This is an early reference to the protagonists of Aberrant, which was released later in 1999.

Cover: The cover depicts a lot of Warren Shaw avatar heads. The image comes from the interior section on Shaw being replaced with a SI construct.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
