Strange Encounters

The Vigil brings no easy explanations — every night is a new mystery, a bizarre creature, an unknown terror. But hunters are humans, and humans must categorize — they take notes, keep journals, snap pictures and attempt to illustrate the horrors they meet on the hunt. By doing so, hunter cells try to find patterns, solve enigmas, and most important of all, keep hold of their sanity in these long, dark nights.

A Chronicle Book for Hunter: The Vigil
• An “artifact” book detailing the secret files of a lone hunter cell operating in the city of Philadelphia.
• Can be used as a prop in any Hunter: The Vigil game, or can be used by Storytellers and players as a resource from which to draw new encounter and story ideas.
• Digs deeper into the mysteries surrounding the monsters of the World of Darkness (those known as well as many that remain singular and uncategorized) as well as the strange compacts and conspiracies that hunt them.
• Connects with the Hunter: The Vigil corebook and its supplements by reintroducing and revisiting ideas, locations and characters (the city of Philadelphia, Alicia Mangum, Michael Moryken, Emily the Talisman, the Chevalier Theleme, and more).

Note: The Black & White print editions of this book are not full-bleed. Because of printing requirements there is a small white border around the edge of the pages.

Hunter: The Vigil Second EditionHunter: The Vigil Second Edition

Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition is a standalone game that can be played by new or existing players. The lore has been updated to not only reflect the uptick in monsters, but also the fact that hunting monsters is not exclusive to a location, group of people, or time period. There may be more monsters than ever before, but now there are more ways to fight them, too.

In Hunter: The Vigil, anyone can be a hunter — provided you are committed to the hunt. It is a game of personal horror and sacrifice that tests relationships and encourages teamwork within a cell, compact, or conspiracy.

Hunter: The Vigil Second Edition includes:

Hunter presents a core set of rules and three options for gameplay for new or existing players. This game includes:

  • Overview of a hunter’s world and lore, the types of hunters you can play, and three separate tiers of gameplay.
  • Six compacts and six conspiracies with Endowments for tiered play.
  • Character creation, rules to hunt, equipment, Tilts, and Conditions.
  • Monster creation and locations where to hunt the strange and unexplained.
  • The Slasher Chronicle, Storyteller advice, and more!

Just a bunch of stories set in the hunter the vigil universe. Could be useful for people who want some ideas for story telling in their campaign, but it wasn't what I was looking for, nor expecting from the description given. [...]

The title is rather misleading, It´s not much of a guide more a collection of short encounters/stories from a hunter cell. I did purchase it hoping for a comprehensive creatures guide and was rather dissapointed, there are bits and pieces strewn throu [...]

The PDF quality is poor. I cannot read much of the text as most of it comes across as a dark grey text on a black background - It's impossible to read whithout copying the text and putting it into a text editor and reading it that way. I'm not s [...]

A very excellent sourcebook/artifact book which centers on a diary of a lost cell of Hunters(of course with notes by several other hunter groups which have discovered it). Lots of story hooks. Great stuff, one of the best books that White Wolf h [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
