7 fully realized rpgs for $7.
The d6 Design Contest 2009 started back at the end of 2008. The idea of the contest wasn't really a contest at all but more of a creative challenge for those who accepted it. The only real design criteria were that the games had to use a d6 mechanic and they could not be more than 15 pages.
This is the culmination of that contest. The d6 Design Contest 2009 features seven unique games created by seven unique designers. Here is a brief overview of what you get inside.
Apprentice (Overall Winner of the 2009 d6 Design Contest) By Jonathan Palmer "The pointed hat, the gnarled staff, the wizened beard, these are all the signs of a powerful wizard, a man living beyond the age of normal men, brimming with untold amounts of magical might and arcane wisdom. This game is not about them. This game is about the poor lad or lass staying at home dealing with mundane affairs such as sweeping out the dragon cage or catching the master's laundry so they can be properly washed. This is the life of the drudge, the idiot, the poor sod, the student, the slave, and the tiny pinch of potential that might one day command the laws of physics to sit down and shut up. This is the game of Apprentice."
City of Night By Timothy Dedeaux "A GM-less urban fantasy RPG." Vampires, werewolves, dark and gritty cityscapes.
Masters of Magic By Andri Erlingsson "Have you ever wanted to move mountains? Command the elements? Be tall, powerful and famous? Of course. We all feel that way sometimes, even if we can already do a great many things. Wanting to be in control is a natural inclination. But we almost never think the consequences through; as the old cliché goes, power corrupts. Meanwhile, we fiddle with the food on our plates like we were told not to and get on with life. This is a game about power over the impossible, absolute mastery of magic. It‘s a game about the consequences of absolute power. It‘s also a game about playing with your food." Did we mention that it's played with M&Ms®?
Mississippi Steel By Jennifer Schoonover "Trash-talking, backwoods wisdom, and redneck racing: that's what Mississippi Steel is all about. Combining the fun of roleplaying with the thrill of high-speed competition, this game was designed with simplified rules to put you on the road to asphalt glory."
School Daze By Chad Rose "...oh those long days and the drudgery of class. What unbelievable thing will happen to break the kids out of this funk! Will the kids rally to overthrow the school bully? Or maybe investigate the strange Science teacher Mr. Steinbottom who supposedly keeps kids locked in the school basement? School Daze can be played by anyone not just kids! Get some friends together for a quick game or an adventure that takes place over a few gaming sessions..."
Teen Island By Chris McDowall "On their cross-pacific trip to the International Highschooler Summit, twelve teenagers find themselves stranded on a remote island with no sign of civilization."
The Zombie Nation RPG By Eric "Neurozombie" Downton Welcome to the Zombie Nation! The Zombie Nation RPG is a simple beer and pretzel RPG of apocalyptic zombie goodness and bloody dismemberment.
