Battlemap - The hall of the Well - FREE
by Alastair M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/30/2014 08:17:05

This is a stunning showcase package for the Lord Zsezse Battlemaps. The style is that of another free Battlemap product, "The Way to Cthulhu", so could be used alongside it, and both match their "Crypt" range of subterranean floorplans, hence the ads (with money-off vouchers!) included here. The Battlemap would benefit from being printed at the best quality level you can achieve for use in gaming, while for GM's reference there are isometric and plan views in colour and greyscale, the colour plan as an additional poster-sized, 200 dpi JPEG file included in the pack. A perfect sampler for the Lord Zsezse Crypts.

Ancient Worlds - Hills
by Olga B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/18/2014 21:49:06

I've been going nuts making paper terrain lately and have ordered probably 30 3d paper models from this site including most of Dave Graffam stuff (awesome), Fat Dragon stuff etc. but these amazing hills just blew my mind with their ingenious design. I had a blast assembling them and spent 5 hours straight at it having a ton of fun. It's really clever how the designer put these things together and the textures were kick ass. Love it!

FREE Battlemap from Ground Set #10 - Desert
by David W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/17/2013 20:14:46

I have to admit, that when a product says, "Pay What You Want," many people read it as "Free." I read it as "Set your own price." That being said, I set a "fair" price for this product, and I was VERY happy with it.

The artwork is nothing short of amazing, and you feel like you could actually "touch" the sand, and lead footprints in it.

There are a couple little things, however, I would have liked to have seen done differently, but over all, this just comes down to personal preference.

1) I prefer a grid on my maps. This has one (using the PDF layers, which is fantastic), however, on page "K" (I believe), the grid is not there. It can be easily corrected using a pen and ruler, but it does take away from the overall aesthetics, because unlike many publishers that use heavy lines, or black lines, the grid is a dark tan, and doesn't take away from the map.

2) I prefer my tiles to be tiles, and completely interchangeable. This is an actual map, and is laid out as such. In the case of an actual set of "tiles," you should be able to align them and set them up modularly, customizing your game map.

These "negatives" are very inconsequential compared to the benefits of the tiles. I could list the artwork, colors and overall realism of this set as among the best released by any publisher.

Lord Zsezse has an infallible knack for delivering a gaming product that is awe inspiring. To say that I recommend this product is an understatement. I have purchased MANY of their products, and have never been disappointed.

Great work!

Modular Trench System
by Stéphane M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/07/2013 03:48:14

The graphics are excellent, and contain many details! I'll probably print the battlefield on PVC and it will be a great game table by adding some 3D elements such as trees or ruins. The quality is worth the price!

Cardstock Miniature Set #1 - Elven/Fairies
by David W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/17/2013 09:13:08

This set offers some beautifully drawn elf/faeries and it offers the easy to use layers that we are used to seeing with Lord Zsezse's releases.

Lots of color options and 10 different poses to choose from. The downside is all ten figures share the same options (as far as color and layers). If you wanted a uniform look (in case of an army or clan), then this is actually a great option. If you wanted to make each figure unique (as far as hair, clothing and "ball" options), then you will have to print out a whole page of each figure.

The options create an almost limitless array of options, so if you can't find the color combination you are looking for here, then you don't need it.

A great set of miniatures!

Ground set #15 - Astral Plane
by Chris H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/14/2013 14:24:06

Like all LZW Ground Sets, Astral Plane offers a substantial collection of 6x6 tiles in various configurations, with a “pavement” texture sitting atop a background texture. In this case, the background looks like outer space, and the pavement looks like bumpy green cobblestones. Many tiles are punctuated with ripples or vortexes of purple energy. The whole effect is sufficiently odd to befit an exotic setting like an astral plane, and the artwork beautifully complements LZW’s Battlemap: The Plane of Havoc. However, the Astral Plane tiles are 6x6 and the Plane of Havoc tiles are 7x10 with well-defined outside borders, so they don’t really fit together that well as a practical matter.

Battlemap - The Plane of Havoc
by Chris H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/14/2013 14:22:39

This latest in LZW’s series of battlemaps with a connected storyline brings characters into an otherworldly realm “paved” with something that looks like green cobblestones. The artwork is beautifully executed, but perhaps a little too tightly tied into LZW’s ongoing story. The map is long and thin, with unfortunate bottlenecks at a few points, making it a little bit “railroady.” The really significant negative, though, is the depiction of Abaddon chained at the end of the “room.” Having him pictured on the map ties him down, either making him more of a terrain feature than a creature or forcing players and DMs to ignore the printed representation if Abaddon gets loose. Also, although the artwork here blends beautifully with the artwork in LZW’s Ground Set #15 - Astral Plane, the Astral Plane tiles are 6x6 and the Plane of Havoc tiles are 7x10 with well-defined outside borders, so they don’t really fit together that well as a practical matter.

Ground set #15 - Astral Plane
by Ralph Y. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/01/2013 12:08:45

Really loving this tile set. The square-tile geomorph approach works well in the context of building floating islands of matter floating in the void. Lord Zsezse really created a comprehensive set of tiles here -- more than fifty, compared to the twenty or so in a typical tile set. Lord Zsezse products are generally .pdfs designed to be printed out and used on cardstock, either as maps or as paper models. The Ground Set line, though, works brilliantly with virtual tabletops like Maptool once you convert the .pdfs to .gifs and crop the excess whitespace out. I would urge Zsezse to offer .gif or .png format tiles prerendered for these purposes, but even without its worth the extra work to convert it on your own for tabletop use.

Also worth noting that the Astral Plane/Limbo/Otherdimensional nature of this tileset is useful for an incredibly wide range of genres of gaming, in a way that dungeon geomorphs aren't.

Battlemap - Way to Cthulhu - FREE
by Alastair M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/30/2013 07:10:19

A glorious piece of subterranean dungeon artwork rendered in Battlemap vertical plan for tabletop use, and in isometric view with cutaway walls and archways to make you wish there was also a 3D model of the whole. The PDF Battlemap lets you toggle on or off a one-inch square grid, the only map-layer option in this product, but as almost all the floor is already conveniently flagged with one-inch square stones, that affects only a couple of small areas in the largest central chamber of the three provided. An excellently timeless temple to culminate any horror adventure in. Or perhaps finding it would be just the start...

Ancient Worlds - Column Circle
by Alastair M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/30/2013 07:08:42

This kit builds into a damaged ring of five, fluted-look stone columns supporting stone-slab lintels, somewhat after the fashion of a small round ancient Roman temple. However, the columns and their bases are pentagonal, not circular, and the lintel-ring is angled too, not rounded, which nicely hints at some alternative civilization instead. The model fits together well, and comes with three different colour schemes using PDF layers, in common with the other Lord Zsezse "Ancient Worlds" products. Unlike some of those though, the options for customization beyond such colour and landscape changes are a little more limited. If you wanted a structure with a complete lintel-ring, for instance, you'd need to print several repeat pages and do a degree of recutting to create a proper fit, as the basic kit doesn't provide a full set of lintel-slabs. Even so, in its "natural state", a pleasing complement to the "Ancient Worlds" line.

Ancient Worlds - Megalith Circle
by Alastair M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/23/2013 09:19:16

An easy-to-build 3D stone circle on a six-inch square base, all items with layer options in the PDF file, so you can toggle between three different 2D landscape textures and model stone colours, and even add a squared one-inch grid to the base if required. But there's also a curious circular symbol scribed on each stone, and thanks to a series of additional layers, these can be made to glow blue, green or red. These colour options are worth exploring fully, because I found they're not quite the same as each other, and by activating more than one symbol-colour layer together, you can actually achieve a further range of subtly different colours and effects. Plus of course, you could use them as individual standing stones rather than "just" in a ring. An excellent addition to the Lord Zsezse Ancient Worlds range.
