It's average.

I wish some designers here would produce some hand painted tiles.
These tilesets with copy/pasted photo textures are getting kind of old.

Not happy with spending $10 on these.

Not a bad little tavern. I would have appreciated getting a higher definition picture of the tavern and tavern roof without any grid lines, but it is a good map.

This was my first map from D20 Cartographer, but it will NOT be my last!

This set offers beautiful artwork, and vivid color. It gives you a complete set of maps that make up this vessel. Perfect for fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, and countless other genres.

Along with a brief description of how the pieces "fit" together, it also gives ideas for plot points and suggestions.

A FANTASTIC set, and the best value I have seen in a while for the money.

I was looking for a deck plan to use in my Eberron campaign, and this fit the bill perfectly for an airship. The download even includes a brief description of each deck, just enough to tell me what to place there without specifics I couldn't use. Well worth the very reasonable price!

by JERRY M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/13/2012 08:59:08
I really liked this set. Lots of buioldings with exterior and interior views.

However,

Because of the layout of the town, a lot of the buildings end up being split onto multiple print pages with only a small portion of the building on each page. This becomes even more apparent in the "individual buildings" files where you end up with a lot of whitespace and then just a corner of the building.

Some of this comes from the unusual alignment that the buildings are laid out in in the town. However, for individual files, I'd much rather have the plans laid out in standard up down left right format. MAny of the plans would have fit easily onto one or two pages that way instead of on 1/4 - 1/3 of 4 to six pages at odd angles.

Its a minor thing, but it really adds to the prep time needed for a GM to print and sort and arrange the plans.

It would have been nice to have printable building interiors that were easy to use to make your own town layouts with this.

Other than that, its a nice set. (But maybe you could update it with the separate maps realigned better?)

Hi there! I wanted think thank you for your review and talk about the format for the "easy print" files. In order to ensure maximum compatibility, the 'easy print' PDF files are designed with the standard required margin for most printers (.25 inches on all sides) built in. One of the outcomes was that smaller buildings (say, 11x8) just barely couldn't fit on one page. Once spread across two (or more for larger buildings or multiple levels), it does seem to have a lot of white-space and require a small amount of taping. A lot of experimentation was done to try and minimize the number of pages that any particular building may require: given that the map was designed artistically first and formatted for print second, this ended up being the best layout. (for anyone who is unclear on what we mean, definitely check out the free sample Tavern download. It should be a good visual aid for the formatting of the rest of the buildings) Should you be interested in building your own maps by rearranging furniture, definitely check out the individual building files in the VTT portion of the download: these empty building 'shells' come as a full, single .jpg files, and dragging/dropping the included objects should be a piece of cake! One of the added bonuses of doing it this way is that you can print from from a single image, tiling it across multiple pages or applying any other print options/formatting/cropping you would like! Thanks again for the feedback, and happy gaming! --D20 Cartographer

The d20 Cartographer strikes again with a massive town map for use in your fantasy RPG. This huge map features a walled town with multiple shops, temples, guildhalls, barracks, and houses. There's also a bazaar for your characters to explore. You can even go inside the city walls to defend the town from invaders. The map is beautiful with rich colors and textures making it highly appealing to the eyes. You can print out the sections to make one large map or print out individual buildings for use in any town.

The true magic happens when you use the map in MapTool. First of all it comes with a set of Devin Night's villager tokens allowing you to populate your town quickly. The MapTool campaign file has two maps representing the interior and exterior of the town's buildings. As you move across the entryway the token is taken to the other map for further exploration. The level of detail on these maps is amazing. You can see the sunlight hitting the floor coming in from the windows. On top of that, the maps already have the vision blocking layer populated so your PCs have no idea what's around the next corner or in the next room.

By The Numbers

28 Tokens
12 Highly detailed buildings with Vision Blocking and Fog of War
2 MapTool campaign files, one with the entire town on one map and another with a map per building
100+ object png files to use for set dressing on any other map you care to draw

The Savage Troll considers this town map a must have for any MapTool fantasy games. You simply can't beat the price for all that's in this product.

This is a really detailled and beautiful town map probably fitting into any fantasy or historical campaign.

If you use MapTool (a free VTT) it comes with additional candy. The campaign file is set up with vision blocking and is made from separare objects, so you can customize the room interior to your needs. It comes with a set of macros that automate movement in the map (if you enter a house you are automatically transported to the interior view).

One Dollar Dungeon: Paladin's Secluded Citadel Map Pack
by Christopher H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/28/2012 19:04:06
Despite what the cover mistakenly says, this product doesn’t provide a “massive seven story wizard’s tower map.” Oops. Instead, it’s a monastery-like complex; the maps depict both exterior and interior views. Putting the whole thing together requires 52 tiles (each tile is square, 7" to a side). The artwork is very well done. The product includes JPGs for virtual tabletop use, but it could also have used a key.

Fantasy Maps: Lightning Train Map Pack
by Christopher H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/18/2012 09:34:58
Obviously, this map set is tailor-made for fantasy RPG campaigns in Eberron or very similar high-magic settings. The artist has done a great job of depicting both the inside and the outside of the engine and the caboose and everything that goes in between, including cabin cars, a dining car, and various types of cargo cars. The artwork is very nice, and it’s provided in both color and black-and-white, in both letter and A4, and in both PDF and JPG. It’s hard to ask for more. Well, okay, I could ask for better proofreading; some embarrassing errors (like “your party is have dinner with the captain” and the consistent misspelling of “incorporate”) slipped through the editorial process. If you’re using the letter-sized pages, you’ll need two pages to print the interior of one car, and four pages to print the exterior.

Fantasy Maps: Airship Map Pack
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 05/03/2012 04:19:33
Ever noticed how much fantasy fiction - in books or on the screen - involves a lot of travel?

Well, here is a way to make the travel as fantastical as the adventures you have when you arrive at your destination. Here is a collection of lush plans of an 'airship' - not a blimp or other wonder of modern engineering, but something redolant of early D&D Spelljammers, a magical vessel that looks like a ship yet sails through the air... and perhaps even further.

It's beautiful in its own right, too; and provides plenty of scope for adventures aboard. Maybe it will become the focal point of your campaign: your characters may spend their early levels acquiring enough cash to purchase one (or expertise to acquire it by, ahem, other means), then use it to further their ends as they travel the length and breadth of the campaign world. All the traditional 'nautical' roles of military vessel, trade ship, exploration or buccaneering are open to those who have access to a ship like this, and to the magics necessary to make it go.

There's a lot here. The main deck - complete with ballistae to keep pesky pirates away (or, if ethically challenged, to conduct your own assaults on other vessels). Then the captain's cabin (he appears to have been doing well), and then below it officer country, with a lounge and essential sail controls as well as the first officer's cabin. One deck down, and it's where everyone else lives, along with the galley and armoury. Passengers and crew can be accommodated here. Below that, there's the hold. All fully-detailed and ready for your adventures.

If you conduct your games online - or with computer support at the gaming table - there are MapTools files; if you prefer to lay things out in front of your players in hardcopy, there are suitably-scaled printable sheets so that your miniatures (or counters) can be brought into play as necessary.

Just looking at it is spawning ideas... if you relish a touch of the truly fantastic, whether your characters will take a single trip aboard or become sky-farers in their own right, this is well worth considering.

Fantasy Maps: Airship Map Pack
by Keith (. T. A. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 04/30/2012 16:38:08
Yet another map from D20 Cartographer that is absolutely beautiful. The map comes in five sections including the main deck, lower decks, and two rooms in the stern representing the captain's quarters and an officer's area.

The write-ups for the maps were nice as well. Too often map packs contain only maps. D20 Cartographer does an excellent job of providing some written flare to guide that GM in the direction of adventure.

For VTT users, the package comes with 48 jpgs representing the decks and various items found on the ship, from ballistas to the captain's bed. The reusable objects can stay in your graphics library for future use on other maps. The artwork is fantastic but D20 Cartographer added a little something extra for MapTool, a campaign file complete with teleport pads which take you from deck to deck.

Overall a superlative effort.

One Dollar Dungeon: Paladin's Secluded Citadel Map Pack

Originally posted at http://diehardgamefan.com/2012/03/02/tabletop-review-one-dol

Usually when you purchase an electronic map pack, you get a few tiles or a set room that you get to use one way. If you are lucky, you can mix and match a couple pieces to come up with new rooms, but generally you either get a single large room or building, or you get some smaller generic pieces that work together to make a larger map. If you want to use the components in a manner other than the prescribed offering, you’ll have to a lot of work tweaking the maps using some software or just get creative.

Sometimes something as simple as choosing to not have grid lines or printing the map to black and white instead of color is just too much work. It is frustrating because you know that the publisher had all these graphics laid out in commercial software, and with just a few mouse clicks, they could have provided you with exactly what you wanted.

D20 Cartographer seems to “get it” when it comes to providing map sets. They provide a single map, in this case a Paladin’s Citadel, in multiple formats and styles for only $1. For that dollar you get:

A set of “easy print” PDFs

Black & White with grid
Black & White without a grid
Color with a grid
Color without a grid
A set of .JPG files

Black & White with grid
Black & White without a grid
Color with a grid
Color without a grid
A set of virtual table-top files

100 dpi .JPG files of each floor, with items removed
25 .PNG file objects for use with any maps
MapTools .RPMAP file with objects embedded and vision blocking set up
The Paladin’s Citadel is a large 150′ x 100′ fortification that is part shrine and part barracks. The citadel is three stories tall, with a smaller second floor and an “intimate” third floor private room. The Citadel is fully furnished if you use the higher resolution printable maps and is unfurnished if you use the files designed for virtual table tops. The one specific MapTools file is already furnished and ready to occupy.

The only issue I could find with this particular map set is that every graphic of the exterior of the Citadel is set on what appears to be a desert background. When using a single building, I’d like to be able to place it on the background of my choosing, especially when using MapTools. Since the focus is on the Citadel itself, having the building presented without the background terrain would let me more easily use it with my existing maps. If I had a larger area map I could resize the .JPG file to set my Citadel where I wanted it and then pull out the more detailed version when the players moved to that building. It is a minor issue, and only relevant because D20 Cartographer did such an otherwise thorough job in providing everything a GM might want to use this map pack.

Normally for $1 I’d expect to get a full color map of the Citadel and that would be it. With all of these files, I can print up the map on my printer at home if I need it quick and cheap, full color at the print shop for quality, or use it in my MapTools game. With the extra .JPG and .PNG files I can re-purpose parts of the Citadel in other maps.

Dollar for dollar, the Paladin’s Citadel from D20 Cartographer is one of the best RPG supplements I’ve ever purchased. I can heartily recommend the entire One Dollar Dungeon line.

This is an amazing map set suitable for a Victorian/Old West/SteamPunk settings. The product includes PDFs for printing, JPGs for importing into your favorite Virtual Tabletop, PNGs representing objects inside the train, and a MapTool campaign file that is a thing of beauty.

Simply load the campaign file into MapTool and move a token across the train. As it moves over an entrance to a car, it is teleported inside to a different map showing the inside of the car. All the maps include light sources and topology which is a great time saver for the GM.

This product does an equally good job of showing off the artist's talent and MapTool's capabilities. I highly recommend it.
