Center Space: GM Supplement
Publisher: Frughtlupes
by Robert P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/28/2006 00:00:00

This and its' partner book, Center Space, have an interesting premise-humans find an artifact, and end up having everyone else in the galaxy dependent on them to survive, after an occupying force leaves power. Yet, humans are considered weak, ineffective, and downtrodden. Makes me wanna play a human in this game. The other races are far more accepted in this game universe. But, the technology is unique, sort of a biomechanical type.

You do have wizard and clerics, of a sort, in this world. You also have the sci-fi gaming archetypes-the aloof, mysterious aliens who try to guide the lesser races, the honorable warrior race, the sneaky race that grifts, scams, and scrounges its' way around the galaxy (in this case, humannity, now all psionic).

The backstory IS interesting reading, about the elevation, fall, and ongoing rebuilding of humanity. How they harness this new, leftover technology to rebuild their race, and keep the rest of the newly-freed races going (the galaxy is dependent on the energy source found on Earth for transport and essential survival, to the point that any other tech is considered mysterious).

LIKED: Center Space is so packed with good stuff, they had to split it up into two books!

DISLIKED: The website for the company that made this is gone, so the support material is also gone. That is where you find some of the best tidbits for a RPG!

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
City of Bronze D20 Neo-Pulp Starter Kit

Pulp- I love it in my orange juice , and I love it in my d20! This starter kit allows you to pick and choose the things you'd like in your pulp campaign. If you want to include pulp heroes and their sidekicks, go for it! If you want buxom seductresses (and what gamer wouldn't?), go for it! If you want lost worlds and natives from them, wandering the streets of the modern world, go for it!

LIKED: Good price for numbers of PDF's you can get.

DISLIKED: There was somthing missing out of the original profile of the city itself, but I can't place my finger on it.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Rules for degrees of knowing languages-cool! In d20, you either know a language or you don't-no grey area. In this product, you have rules to be a native speaker, someone who took maybe a course of German in school, or someone who has immersed themselves in a culture to learn. Ranks, just like with all of the other skills in D20. Only five, so a PC can't add bonuses to it.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
For those of you who like to go epic in D20 Modern, here ya go! This product extrapolates on the Epic Level Handbook's rules in a big way. If you want to have a modern-day, larger-than-life character, who can literally forge the world in new paths, or a villain who can make Macchiavellian plans to dominate the planet, you can do it with this product. You can even make your character epic before its' time with a special acquired template!

LIKED: the very fact that there are rules to epic in D20 Modern.

DISLIKED: lack of stats on the Masters, a hidden group of epic level people running the world in an Illuminati-esque manner.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
[d20 Modern] Forbidden Kingdoms: Modern
Publisher: Super Genius Games

Love this setting! Offers three campaign models for play, PLUS is now in the D20 Modern rules! Like chocolate and peanut butter. I wasn't crazy about this product originally being in the 3.0 rules, but I loved the setting. Now if there were only a conversion for the fantastic sequel for FK, "Paris-the Spectral City".....

The D20 Modern rules just work better for anything not in a fantasy setting. You can play any pulp character in this setting. There is enough background in the three campaign models to go anywhere, do anything, and get that feeling of awe and wonder that the pulp era (about from the Wild West era to the Depression) evoked.

LIKED: see above

DISLIKED: nothing to really complain about.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
This is essentially Higlander d20. Not a bad thing, but I see that those of us having been immersed in pop culture, now run the RPG industry. This means a current gamer can get that warm fuzzy feeling from the nostalgic feel of current d20 games.

LIKED: It gives a scientific explanation for why these Eternals are the way they are, yet you can go a mystical route as to their origins.

DISLIKED: This product WILL evoke an eyeroll and possibly a groan if the reader knows what this is loosely based on.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Temporality : Time Travel
Publisher: Dark Quest Games
by Robert P. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/28/2006 00:00:00

This product works for me. Time travel is one idea that every GM has tried at one time or another, if only as a hook. Temporality has rules for divergences, which are what happens when a time traveller to the past interacts with a native. If anyone so much as sees you, you may have changed the future- your home time-, if only a bit. Spells allow you to affect temporal flow, wrap it around your pinky, or even travel through time. But beware, this isn't easy. Time has many ways to limit your travelling through it, and there are those who would just as soon take you out of the timestream.

A temporal governing organization is also included, for the whole "Timecop" thing. Suposedly, it started in the Fanatsy era of a world, and continues all the way until the Future age of that world. Four different divisions for each prominent era, and the organization has different divisions for various functions-collecting, tampering-prevention, research, etc.

Even has what happens if temporal energy affects items a PC can buy. How does dynamite change if temporal energies warp it?

LIKED: plenty of ideas on both temporal and dimensional travel and games (although the 25th adventure hook was a groaner LOL).

DISLIKED: Not much on the technology of time travel, and also, no time travel for divine spellcasters.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
