This is indeed a book designed for those who would like to dessign ships with the freedom that comes from a universal vehicle generator. Unlike the ships laid out in MT, the ships designed with these guidelines are completely governed by the creator's wish and the laws of science. The pages do carry a watermark that shows the symbol of the imperial seal. I don't blame them for using a watermark ( all material downloaded from here shows the watermark of drivethrustuff.com. It would be nice if the watermark would alternate between the various empires and civilizations *i.e. a Falcon for Empress Margaret, a swirl for Dulinor or a cross in a circle for the Solomani.

I guess all I have to say is that this is pretty lightweight material but it is a unified, organized system. One of the best features about this book is the presence of equations throughout the text. Unlike other other T4 books which have a lot of beautiful illustrations, this book has only the occasional drawing. It's almost as if the author thought he had to include at least one piece of art per chapter

If you were ever a "fan" of High Guard, Striker, or the original FF&S, this edition is another in the long line of detailed rule sets allowing you to cover a great many esoteric aspects of ship and equipment design. If you don't like the way the standard technology works, it still gives you a good framework for adding in any other design sequence or sub-sequence to get what you want. Don't like Jump Drive? Prefer Bloater Drive instead? Just juggle the numbers!

The biggest downside to this volume so far is in the extraction. The PDF allows content to be sampled and moved (as I do with my games as they borrow from many but are based on a unique set of rules that cry out for having their content consolidated in a single rulebook).

However.... Every Odd page has a nice Imperial Sun symbol graphic overlaying the text. This interferes with your ability to copy text sections from all the Odd numbered pages. Whether or not it is a deliberate attempt to introduce some copy protection I cannot say, but since one of the main points of electronic documents is their accessibility... In any event, this cost the product 2 stars on my rating. If not for this, I'd have given it a 4/5. I've always been a follower of Frank Chadwick's game systems and Traveller was my first RPG, so I've got a soft spot.

3 for the overall product, +1 for the content, and –2 for the Imperial Sun graphic/watermark interfering with text selection.
