Finially got it and it was my computer causing the delay, not DTRPG. It is good to have this info back in my hands and before my eyes again. Considering that the material has survived for 30 years, the scan was fine.

One of the most important RPG books ever written...and by the man who started it all, E. Gary Gygax! I deduct a single star, not for the lack of excellent content, but for the poor scan quality.

What can I say about this that hasn't been said already? Actually, plenty.

"It's AD&D, old school, useless." Right?

Hardly.

For the random dungeon generator alone, it is well worth downloading. But this book is golden from cover to cover, with only minor exceptions. It was, and remains, the best how-to guide for dungeonmastering around. And there's a lotta other neat stuff in there too. If you've never played AD&D, if your introduction to D&D was 3.0 or 3.5, or even 2nd Ed., you owe it to yourself to find out what you missed.

LIKED: Dude. So. Much. Stuff.

DISLIKED: Yeah, ok, some of it is out of date and effectively useless, like the hit tables and the monster stats list. But tons of it is still useful to a 3.5-er.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied

The 1st edition Dungeon Master's Guide is exactly what it says, and almost everyone who'd be interested in getting this already knows what's in it. The scan is quite decent, though not fantastic and the book that got scanned wasn't in perfect shape (there are some handwritten markings in it, for example in the Deck of Many Things entry). Nevertheless, all the material seems to be there, and it's readable.

It's good to get if you want to play a 1st edition D&D game, get some material in it that didn't make later versions (lots of that in here), or simply as a "historical document" -- you can see a lot of how D&D has evolved (and not evolved!) from this first edition.

LIKED: It's a good scan of a fair quality book.

DISLIKED: It would be nice if the print edition with the different cover (dungeon master opening doors) were available -- I would have preferred that one.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied

This is brilliant to have this in a pdf version. Being a gamer from 20 years ago this is a godsend if you wish to go back to the basics. I love this game, and prefer to use the uncut version, without having to use a million other books just to understand the mechanics of things like 3rd edition.

LIKED: The way it is set out

DISLIKED: nothing

LIKED: The fact I could actually get a copy of it

DISLIKED: Some of the pages were a little blury and scanned crocked.

Scanning is a little fuzzy overall, but legible. At least the PDF is reasonably bookmarked to make discovery of information a little easier. A *.txt version of this same info was REALLY what I was looking for though.
