The modern player's companion is definately a good buy, especially for someone looking for more options for creating modern characters. That's exactly what it's for.
The players in my group have already expressed interest in a few of the new occupations for their next characters, but I feel at least one or two of them fit a role already included in the d20 Modern book. The Academic occupation mentions it is for teachers, so there is no need for an Educator occupation.
The class combinations are great for players that want to play a certain type of character but aren't sure which classes will fit the role. Just wish their were more of them.
I like a lot of the new advanced classes, and the Adept class immediately replaced the Mage class on an NPC I was running. A few of them I don't really like (Opinion Maker), but it's most likely because they don't fit the kind of game I run.
I allow most of the new feats in my game, and I especially like the new gunfighting feats. I'm not fond of the Self Improvement feat since it takes away from achieving levels that give you a bonus to an ability score. Of the new feats, that's the only one I don't allow in my game.
Unforunately, the rest of the book I find to be worthless. Which is ok because it's only a few pages. The equipment section details a lot of equipment that is not really needed. I don't need to know the purchase dc and weight for camera bags, duffle bags, fanny packs, designer outfits, and various survival gear such as canteens and rain ponchos. I can just look up in the d20 Modern guide and find out the purchase dc based on an approximate cost of the item if a player wants it.
The equipment section is the only section that lacks in this book and is the only reason I didn't rate it as a 5. I still highly recommend this product for anyone running or playing in a d20 Modern game.
