SRD 3.5 pdf

The d20 SRD 3.5 is exactly that. It is a ~1200 page pdf containing everything about the SRD. The text is small and compact to accomodate the size of the work and I experienced a little blurring as I zoomed in to read it up close.

Navigation is made very easy in three ways. First you have typical pdf bookmarks that you can use easily to jump from item to item. This has been narrowed down to each individual entry in the SRD. Second, hyperlinks have been placed at the top of each page to Basics, Magic and Spells, Magic Items, Monsters, Psionics, and Epic. Lastly, the entire table of contents contains hyperlinks to every single item in the SRD. Need to look up Kobold fast? Open the table of contents, find Kobold, and click, you're there. Otherwise, a page listing is also offered.

The text is in two-column format which I find very easy to read and tables have been created for things such as monsters and character progression to make everything a little more organized.

LIKED: Very easy navigation of a gargantuan body of work. Very tight and concise no-nonsense treatment of the SRD.

DISLIKED: Hard question since I don't know everything about Acrobat, but I would have liked to be able to copy the tables right out of the text and place them into a word document without losing the column and row lines. It's certainly not a reason to avoid this product however.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied

The SRD 3.5 PDF published by Cartography Unlimited for RPGs is a massive, 1143-page, electronic tome that collects *all* of the free rich text 3.5 SRD documents released by Wizards of the Coast into a single, utilitarian, document. Obviously, if you?re not a fan of the 3.5 SRD rules, you won?t find much in the SRD 3.5 PDF to be excited about. If, on the other hand, you?re somebody who has had an interest in the 3.5 SRD rules, but didn?t feel like manually searching 1000+ pages of multiple rich text documents - this product is a godsend.

Laid out in a simple two-column format, the document is both heavily bookmarked for quick and painless searching. While that alone makes it a worthwhile investment at $5.00, it also includes section ?tabs? at the top of every page that allow you to navigate to the beginning of a given section with a single click. I?m currently in the process of developing an OGC product myself, and was nearly at my wit?s end after many days of manually scanning the many rich text SRD files available for free from Wizards of the Coast.. Not only is the SRD 3.5 PDF saving me a lot of hassles as a developer, but if I want to run a fantasy game using the 3.5 SRD rules, this easily searchable PDF is just what the doctor ordered.

Now, having dished out some praise, the only two things that I felt detracted from the product were its lack of interior artwork and its somewhat densely packed font. Now, to be clear, excluding art and using a small font makes perfect sense from a design standpoint - the product is designed to be a utilitarian workhorse, not a conversation piece. I?m merely getting old, and reading the densely packed font with very little to break it up is murder on my eyes (thankfully, the zoom function of my viewer alleviates that problem sufficiently).

In the end, the SRD 3.5 PDF achieves exactly what it sets out to do, serving as a comprehensive, user-friendly, presentation of the 3.5 SRD material. For that I give it high marks and recommend it to anybody who develops games based on the 3.5 SRD rules, as well as anybody who has interest in playing games based on those rules, but either can?t afford to (or doesn?t want to) drop $90 on the core rule books. At $5.00 this thoroughly indexed, comprehensive, tome of OGC material is a good value.

[Note: The ad copy for the product indicates that, as updates are made to the product, the consumer will receive them free of charge via email. I presently have no way to evaluate these updates or the distribution thereof, and have thus refrained from commenting on them for the purposes of this review.]

LIKED: The thorough indexing and use of section-specific bookmarks. The comprehensive coverage of the 3.5 SRD material.

DISLIKED: The lack of art to break up the dense text and the somewhat small font.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied

I am very pleased with this product. After downloading it I went right to work on the first Red Raven Games publication I will be releasing and with all the information I need just a click away.

LIKED: The bookmarks are great and right on the money and the bookmarked table of contents makes searching through the book a lot easier.

DISLIKED: With a document of this magnitude (1000+ pages) an index would have been helpful. But the Bookmarked Contents section makes searching easier.

This is an excellent version of the 3.5 SRD. Well laid out I have printed out sections to use during game sessions and also used it live during the game. Both uses worked very well.

LIKED: Free product up dates. Unmatched search index.

DISLIKED: Massive PDF size makes adobes reader perform slow, but that is more a complaint about adobe than the product.

This product is bookmarked extremely well. This takes great advantage of the electronic format. The ability to text-search using the PDF viewer is also a great plus.

Some people might say that they can do this with other versions of the SRD, but this product makes specific use of the PDF format to allow for easier use.

LIKED: Ability to "magically" pull up specific rules to amaze your players

DISLIKED: Unlimited updates is useless if RPGnow limits your downloads. "Max Limit" sucks and makes this product of much less use.

QUALITY: Acceptable

Simply the best purchase I could have made on PDF. It is an indispensable aid when writing; no rule is more than a few clicks away. That's less time researching and more time creating new d20 content for my games and freelance asignments. I cannot recommend it enough.

This is an okay basic bundle of the SRD. It is fairly inexpensive, and its organization allows me the freedom to be able to be able to print up the little helps and cheat sheets that I need for my GMing...and for my players as well.

Very kewl and well done. Much better (AND cheaper!) than WotC's book, though you get to print and bnder it yourself (actually, even better, since I can divide up and mark it up however I please, and even replace damaged pages individually quickly and easily)

Definately worth it just to not have to sort out the RTF's tables on your own.
