CT-G The Desert Environment

A terrific supplement to the "Classic Traveller" experience! Very detailed, thought-provoking ideas with enough crunch to satisfy most gamers. It's a shame that a Jungle Environment book was not published, because that would be great too! My only complaint is that, when printing the PDF, some pages print full-page while others are tiny--perhaps little larger than a quarter-page. This is a minor quibble, as all pages are legible.

Buffy RPG Revised Corebook
Publisher: Eden Studios
by William V. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 05/06/2009 16:55:20
For fans (whether casual or completely mad) of the seven season long show, Eden has done an amazing job creating an easy-to-learn, fun d10-based ruleset that replicates the action-packed excitement of the programme. The text is delightful to read and entertaining in its own right and explains the mechanics in terms accessible to not only adults but children too. The core mechanic has a marked resemblance to the d20 system (i.e. die roll plus various modifiers to determine success or failure), but are thankfully less intricate. The text is sprinkled with wonderful quotes from the show and illustrated amply with images of the cast and other colourful characters which made the show a world-wide sensation. For people who crave a very detailed, tactical simulation, they may be disappointed by the BtVS RPG, as it instead promises quick-flowing play and does not deal with the combat minutiae taken up by other rulesystems, like d20. Character creation is painless and there are plenty of options to make this a favorite at your gaming table.

5/5 stars.

An absolute classic must-have for ALL novice D&D players! This along with B1 are an essential part of a roleplayer's education. Scan decent, but the content is solid gold. If I could give it ten stars, I certainly would!

Need a character quickly? Grab one from the Gallery! Tons of pregen PC's or NPC's to choose from for an AD&D campaign. Plus, you also get some great Olde School art by Erol Otus to boot! Useful content, lackluster scan. 4/5

Fantastic way to introduce beginners to the game! The areas that are to be explored in the module provide ample opportunity for creative additions by the referee. Great content, mediocre scan. 4/5

One of the most important RPG books ever written...and by the man who started it all, E. Gary Gygax! I deduct a single star, not for the lack of excellent content, but for the poor scan quality.

Age of Fighting Sail: Heart of Oak
Publisher: Fantasy Games Unlimited
by William V. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/24/2008 02:11:24
It looks like a very meaty ruleset for its slim 50 or so pages, chock full of nautical crunch to satisfy the barnacle-clad old salt in you. In terms of complexity it may rank alongside Birnie's "Action Under Sail". If you're looking for a simple beer-n-pretzels kinda game, this may not be it. However if detailed ship-to-ship combat and realistic manoeuvres are what you crave, then "Heart of Oak" is the naval wargame for you! The scan is mediocre at best with some pages' text looking a bit pale and hard-to-read, and a labelled diagram of a full-rigged ship is poorly reproduced and may not be helpful unless you're already familiar with the maritime jargon. The period illos are too dark in the scan and it is hard to discern the subject-matter of the pictures, making them nothing more than a waste of printer ink. As I printed the PDF, some of the last few pages refused to print at all save for the watermark. Perhaps the maker of this PDF file can post a new, improved version that does not have problems in the printing process.
4/5 stars.

1st Edition AD&D Monster Manual

This is the book that I marvelled at as a youth in the late 1970's. I turned the pages and stared wide-eyed at the cool pictures of strange and wondrous beasties, and then something wonderful happened: I just had to play the new game called Dungeons and Dragons. The Dave Trampier artwork in this volume has never been surpassed for its technical skill and sheer beauty. It is a must (along with the DMG and Players Handbook) to play the game the way it was meant to. Good quality scan.

This (along with the DMG and MM) are the Three Pillars of classic, Olde School Dungeons and Dragons back in its exciting heyday. The scans are decent and readable, though not stellar. If you've tired of the rules of the the Basic game, then get this to see what role-playing can be in high gear! Put on some bell-bottom jeans, grow your mutton-chops, crank up the late 70's/early 80's FM rock, and experience true adventure!

Dungeons and Dragons Basic Rulebook
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
by William V. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 11/23/2007 14:27:27
Wow, talk about nostalgia! The rules are not always clear (as, say, the Moldvay or Mentzer editions) but what fun! The presentation is simple enough that you could read the rules to a group and play your first session in an hour. You can't really do that with WOTC 3.5 edition, now can you? Great for Ye Olde School Dungeon Crawl!

The only down-side is that the scan is not the best.

The only attempt at a fantasy/scifi-themed module in classic, old-school AD&D. I imagine it would be harder to DM and play than the typical module, but with patience and creativity from all sides, could prove entertaining.
