While it is quite short, this PDF presents some really good information you can use in playing, or encountering, soldiers from the fictional Canadian Security Reconnaissance Section. Although intended for d20 use, the material is easily adaptable... and definitely recommendable.

Canada?s Combined Security Reconnaissance Section

With all the different types of modern military this one strikes me as a little odd. It is fictional. To read through it though it seems plausible and to someone like myself that knows little about the military I could easily have believed it was real. The oddest thing I find about the book though is it does not have a class in it. It has nice descriptions of the group and their equipment but no character class for them. This is by no means a bad thing, but in the d20 world books that describe an organization with out the mechanics of them is a rare thing.

Canada?s Combined Security Reconnaissance Section is a long name for a short PDF. It is written by Fraser Ronald of Sword Edge Publishing. They have a lot of good, solid, and short PDFs that cover modern militaries and similar subjects. The PDF is fourteen pages and comes with a version without pictures for easy printing. The art is by Dean Martin and consists of a pair of color pictures and one black and white. The color I found to look the best. The layout is okay with a few white space issues. There is some nice background images that are light and make the whole things look better.

This is a nice product as it is both well written with little rules. This could easily be used in other modern games that are not d20. The description of the new Canadian Section is very well done. It starts with a reminder that the group is a work of fiction. It suggests how it can be used with other real life Canadian Special Forces unites and that they are defined in other products Sword Edge Publishing has put out. It also suggests that this group with a few minor changes could be part of any countries Special Forces. It then goes into a long history and make up of the organization. It doe not give a lot of specifics like command personal and bases of operations. It does give a good solid feel for the group. It does a good job with ranks and showing what rank would command what type of group and what other ranks would normally be under him.

There is a good section on recruitment and training. A lot of thought went into the PDF with some research to make it sound real. This really shows up in this section. The book has common equipment for the organization and that includes eight specific rifles. It is interesting to see that they choose to have the restrictions of the weapons the Canadian Restrictions. It is one of those little things that people might not think of to place in a book. Then there is a a good list of typical equipment along with descriptions of them.

This is pretty good book that takes s a look at a fictional Canadian Military group. I like that the rules are pretty light in it and the detail is not. This group should be easy to use in most modern games.

LIKED: The detail of the orgnaization

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
