As always, the artwork from 0one is stunning. That being said, the print resolution is still a bit grainy. My main concern is with the tiled artwork. I don't know of ANY printer that can print edge to edge on an 8.5x11" sheet of paper, but that is the ONLY way you can print this map to scale. I had to scale it down to 93% in order to get it to print, which throws off the grid. If I print at full resolution, it will still leave a small border where the limitations of the printer are reached. In future, I would recommended that 0one take maximum print size into consideration when making tiled maps. Either give a little overlap between tiles, so there's room for cutoff, or at best, format the tiles so there is a 1/2" margin. Very disappointing.

Also, I was not very happy with the customization options here. In their customizable battle maps products, they offer the ability to have objects that are intact OR smashed OR missing. In this one, you either have smashed objects OR no objects at all in random spots. There is one column TOTALLY missing from the map unless you include the rubble, and then it's smashed, and you also have to have a smashed door to go with it. This is shoddy. Why can't I have the option for a complete temple with all of the statues and braziers intact? Is that too much to ask? It seems they really cut corners here, and it saddens me.

All in all, it's still a nice map, and if you want a map in various stages of disrepair, it's totally worth the $3. However, if you want a more versatile map with lots of customization options, this one is so-so, but it's lacking in some very big ways.

Although primarily designed for a miniatures skirmish game, this plan could be used as the climax of a role-playing adventure (with particular effect if you like to use miniatures for combat scenes). Even some of the scenarios ostensibly provided for skirmish play could be used to inspire an adventure for which the skirmish could provide the combat element.

Basically, the place is a big open worship space. In native format (although it is extremely customisable using 0one's "Rule the Dungeon" feature) it has already suffered quite a lot of damage from those opposed to whatever religion is practised here - broken doors, shattered statues and other debris strewn around. There's an altar (now bloodstained, which depending on the religion may be its usual state) on a dais at one end, with a couple of what appear to be ritual circles in side chapels to each side. Then there's a long nave, with pillars and niches for statues down the sides and the remains of a nice carpet running down the middle. There were big double doors at the end, they are the ones lying broken on the floor now.

Presented in colour, with the lush top-down view artwork 0one Games are famous for, there is a one-page overview map and a larger map made of 6 segments to be used as the actual battlemap. You are able to customise these maps by choosing whether or not to display walls, lights, those sacred circles, the statues, furniture and other odds & ends, rubble, the grid lines or even the background itself if you want to save ink when printing.

?0one?s Customizable Battlegrounds ? Dark Cathedral? is a 13 page pdf product from 0one Roleplaying Games. This pdf is the second in the Customizable Battleground line and presents an 8 page battlemap that can be used for roleplaying or miniature gaming with a 1? base. This particular offering presents a partially ruined cathedral (depending on your settings) for your party to adventure in.

The map features the ?Rule the Dungeon? Button which allows you to toggle on or off the terrain text (rough terrain), summoning circles, the walls, lighting sources, rubble, statues, 1? gird, furniture (altar and skull rug), and floor texture. This feature was first used in ?The Dungeon Under the Mountain? and uses the layers feature of adobe pdfs to allow you to control the look of the product. The works really well for this product line as well though I would like a ?Fill? selector so the walls could have an out line but instead of a thick black border, still because of the open design on this map it?s not a real problem.

I printed a couple of the pages in black and white as well as colour to examine how the map would look actually coming out of my printer. I was quite impressed, moving to a blue-grey floor in this release really improved the appearance of the tile in black and white over the earlier release.

On top of the battlemap there are a number of scenario?s could be used for a miniature skirmish game and include ?Calling the Outsider?, ?The Rescue? and ?Wrath of the Gods?; each includes a ?Set This Scenario? button to quick configure the map in a number of ways. The names themselves can also suggest what sort of roleplaying encounter could occur here as well.

You could also easily use this room as a throne room for a BBEG if you had the following toggled off (summoning circles, furniture, and rubble) then just add a throne from your miniatures.

LIKED: Better coloring for printing in black and white.
Continued praise for the "Rule My Dungeon" feature.
Nice location that can be a temple sacrifice room, summoning chamber or throne room

DISLIKED: I would like to be able to shut of the black fill
I would like a suggested roleplaying use for each of the presets.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied

Excellent work! The script on the pdf allowing you to add and remove map elements and overlays is a wonderful tool. This is one of the best bargains I've found ar rpgnow, and I can't wait to use it as a location in my game! Sign me up for the other Customizable Battlegrounds!

LIKED: The ability to modify the pdf map, adding and subtracting lights, rubble, and other futures with the click of the mouse. High quality artwork doesn't begin to describe this map.

DISLIKED: The fact that there aren't 3 dozen more in this series for me to buy!

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
