An RPG Resource Review:

While many of 0one's Blueprints are single locations, this one is a complete - if compact - dungeon! There's a short backstory which explains the dungeon's name and gives you some idea of how to populate it, but of course you can substitute any appropriate story more suitable to events and locations in your campaign.

The dungeon consists of a ground level, a small cave system that serves as the entrance, and three levels of underground complex. The ground level is very overgrown and has but the remains of a small guard post still more or less standing. If you're lucky (or is that unlucky) you can find a path to a bone-strewn cave entrance which leads to the horrors beyond!

The initial caves lead to constructed areas which are under a long-gone castle, and both the cave system and the built bit lead down to 3 lower levels. It's quite a big complex actually, although in a state of disrepair with a lot of cave-ins and fallen rocks... and may well prove to still be unstable when your adventurers start rooting around.

The usual technical talents of 0one allow for customisation to some extent - print blue or black and white pages, have a compass rose or grid overlay and so on.

This is a fine example of what might be left behind when the above-ground structures are long gone, and provides plenty of scope for a traditional dungeon-crawl.

I'm forced to agree with the previous reviewer, Mark Shipley.

I'm a huge fan of 0one's bluprints, and I'm constantly amazed by the quality cartographer Mario Barbati provides, all for less than two dollars.

Italy's greatest rpg mapmaker also has an uncanny knack for predicting what kinds of maps gamers will need before the gamers even know themselves.

This time, however, I think Mr. Barbati's instincts failed him a little ...

As reviewer Shipley stated, the majority of this map is simply yet another underground dungeon. It's a good dungeon, to be sure, but once your players take their characters underground, they could be in any dungeon anywhere, in any fantasy world. The connection to the Ruined Town setting is very slim in this product, and essentially irrelevant.

To be fair, the product title and description makes it very clear that this IS a dungeon; I was just surprised that it was very much a standard dungeon complex, with so little connection to its interesting setting.

I guess that's the risk when you're as talented as Mr. Barbati, people expect more of you than they would from others.

Worth buying, if you know what you're getting, but sadly, I can't justify rating it beyond a 3 out of 5. Mr.Barbati himself has taught us to expect more from him.

I love the 0one "Blueprints" line. I just don't like this one.

"Dungeon of the Thirteen Undead" has only one useful map. This is an outdoor map depicting a hillside and a ruined building. The rest are maps of dungeons that any game master could create in a few moments. Even at the cheap price of $1.95, there is not enough content here.

In general, 0one's "Blueprints" are of high quality. They are flexible and easily outstrip the overblown color maps that clutter up the pdf market. Blueprint maps look good when photocopied (which color maps do NOT). Also, they don't burn out your color printer cartridge.

Part of my dissatisfaction with this product is that 0one is releasing the "Ruined Town" project in dribs and drabs that are intended to suck cash out of gamer pockets. I don't blame 0one for making money, but they need to give us more value for each installment. The entire project will be a really expensive game product, when all the components are added up.

What we need is maps of interesting and useful buildngs. We also really really need deck plans for ships. More ships! More ships! (Have I remembered to mention the need for blueprints of ships?)

I don't hate this product, but 0one could do better.
