Hullo - I am the writer of this SAS - while I'm touched to see that a flame war is apparently developing over it, I'll just set the record straight that my editor was actually very professional and helpful. I'm sorry that some of the folks who posted here didn't find this to be up to the standards of my previous work; I'm not going to defend my writing because, from a commercial standpoint (and let's not kid ourselves, writing is a business), the only standard that matters is whether the readership finds it appealing. I'll keep people's concerns in mind in my next project.

I actually purchased this solely because I am familiar with the authors work and have enjoyed it in other White Wolf products, even though I don't play an awful lot of Exalted. Frankly, I think some of the reviews have been overly and needlessly harsh, and others have been more fair. The material itself, the actual plot and details and whatnot, are quite good, and easily adaptable to whatever a GM might have need for. It seems that the biggest ding the author is getting is that there were problems with how it meshed with the mechanics of the game. As someone who used to freelance write, I'm going to stand up for someone who I'm also assuming is also a freelancer (Which is often the case for most RPG writers it seems.) People often get assignments they don't like, and they do the best with what they are given. Believe me, I've been there, it's a tough nut to be handed, and this has a lot of the hallmarks of a project done under duress, with the author making the best of a bad situation. Maybe I'm wrong, this is just my gut intuition talking to me.

I find it dismaying to see how many people (including WW...way to stand up for yourselves and especially your employees, guys) are piling on the author, but fail to face facts: It's the job of White Wolf's editors to thumb it up or down. A good editor would help the author with whatever mechanical flaws and shortcomings the material might have. If such a "flawed" work was let out, it was mostly because the Editor fell asleep at the wheel. Again, I've been in that sort of situation in the past, where I was working under duress, and really needed the steady hand of a good editor to pull me through...only to find the person I was working with lacking; writers depend on good editors to hold up their end of the job as well, and it sucks when the one you are depending on lets you down...

I'm sorry that you consider our responses to be "piling on the author," rather than a sincere indication that perhaps our development process could be improved to assist our freelancers in future endeavors. As the person who developed the product, all I can say is that I prefer to find solutions rather than blame, and this experience has certainly helped me to find better solutions in future products.

THIS WAS AWFUL TO THE POINT OF BEING UNUSABLE. The plot was functional, though not particulaly exciting, and could, with some twinking, be used. The problems, however, endlessly outweigh the positive aspects of this product.

The Characters seem like they were writed with out any knoweldge of the system. What exactly is a god rich with Wyld magics? Why does a DB have solar charms but an abyssal have normal charms and the lunar have no charms and the god have a terrestrial a solar and a spirit charm? What the fuck was the writer thinking? How many hours before the dealine was this written?

Perhaps I'm being too harsh. I love the system. I love the other books. This was a POS.

I have to give it a 2 of 5. I had some of the same complaints as have been previously posted but all in all I found this adventure to be usable and flexible enough to work with multiple character types with only a little editing. The last SAS I really loved and was eager for the next in the line. As for the story itself it felt kind of engaging and I liked the difficult moral choices presented to the characters. NPC's weren't great but they spawned some good ideas. So at the end of the day Disease isn't the best quality SAS on the market but it's a whole lot better than nothing and actually has some very redeeming qualities. I really can't recommend the buy though based on the total lack of quality control in the crunch parts. Charms were a train wreck among a few other things.

You know, I had a different review up a while ago, but upon figuring out how to replace my initial one, I decided to revise it.

I still think that this adventure is at least redeemable, and is great for starting characters. It is rough around the edges, and the author makes some mistakes along the way, but at its core it is a decent adventure that can be modified for your group. It is geared more towards Solars, but ultimately, the scenario can fit any group. There is even a small sidebar explaining how one might do so.

However, my biggest qualm with this product is how rough shod it is. A number of glaring errors can be found if you scratch the surface. The author doesn't know the setting too well, and makes a number of assumptions tha fall flat. On top of that, a lot of the mechanics of the adventure were poorly edited and even more poorly handled. Ultimately, this was a half finished product and it shows. Although I don't entirely regret purchasing this product, I do regret to see the steep decline in quality that I expect from most White Wolf products. I hope that either they release a fixed version, or at the very least that they learn from this mistake.

I loved the Daugther of Nexus, the previous adventure for Exalted. It would be easy to use in most of my campaigns with little tinkering and I'm saving it for the right moment. This on the other hand... I'm sorely disappointed so far.

The Solars are assumed to be the protagonists, in a way that renders this adventure pretty much useless to any Abyssal, Infernal, Fair Folk, Mountain Folk player that aren't part of a Solar/Lunar/whatever group. The writeup also doesn't consider dynastic Dragonblooded. Except for the opponents they face this might very well have been a scenario aimed at heroic mortals or pehaps Dragonblooded.

A very positive exception is the writeup of how Sidereals might be involved and what one would have to take into account regarding this story.

A "this is not intended for half the playable beings in the setting and only useful in part to some of the ones that are being considered" warning would have been nice. It feels like I've bought an adventure for Hunter/Vampire/Whatever to then realize that for some strange reason it's just applicable to one specific organization within that book. This is extremely bad.

Worse yet, this adventure ignores the Solar's power level. It simply states: "The characters are welcome to try out their own Charms and skills in Medicine to cure the plague, but nothing will come of it". Excuse my language, but this is bullshit. This is the opposite of the spirit of Exalted.

The writing does not feel as though the setting was as well known to the author as might be expected. Questionable explanations are given for various things or none at all. The NPC's are, despite the effort invested in the backstory for most of them, very unappealing. The system part is not exactly riveting, but appropriately fitting for an adventure obviously intended for starting characters.

All in all this has made me wary of future adventures released for exalted, sadly the exact opposite of the previous one. The artwork is nice, though with a bunch of reused images from other books (which I consider totally fine fo an adventure). The fact that there is any new artwok at all is a bonus.

Overall I'd give this a 1,5 score if I could, but having to decide between a 1 or a 2 I'm sadly going to go with a 1.

We're very sorry that you found this offering to be so disappointing. We will take this criticism into consideration in future, and hopefully get the quality of future Exalted SASs back up to where they were when you purchased Daughter of Nexus.
