honestly, its fine. so long as you are aware that you're getting into a paradise lost inspired romp it can be very enjoyable. but oof old school white wolfisms a plenty here and many a mechanical element that is not explained clearly, or even at all in one case. pick it up if the reign in hell feel appeals but be aware of what you're getting yourself in for

The printing quality is pretty fine, if I do say so myself. I have 0 problems with it. It isn't made of crappy materials, the binding seems solid enough and the pages are legible with no weirdo pixelation or other issues. It was damaged a bit in shipping, but not enough for me to care or to try to get any money back or anything. It also took multiple weeks to print/ship, but it's also my first time ever ordering something POD, so maybe that's normal if you don't pay the exorbitant default amount to get it in 5-7 business days. The shipping damage is also UPS' fault, not DriveThruRPG.

As far as the book itself? If you're buying a DtF book, you don't need a review. You already know the kind of edgy stuff you're getting into. Why are you looking at this if you want that? It's pretty standard old White Wolf fare, although I will say that I've never been held enraptured by the beginning fictions of a WW RPG book before this one. It had me skipping chapters of game rules so I could read more about the world building in between chapters. But that's just my taste. Your results may vary.

Great quality of a scan. PDF is searchable. Nothing to say about the game itself. Looks good to me. You will have to try it for yourself though ;)

I have a soft spot for this book, but it has not held up so well over the years. Perhaps the issue is more that society and the hobby have moved on. There's still a lot to like, and this game would benefit greatly from a 20th anniversary edition to clean up the warts.

Honestly, the largest problem is the general disrespect it has for the source material it draws from. While I would never go after it for imperfectly fitting any particular angelology, but basically ignoring all of them and naming the seven Houses of the Fallen after gods and sacred/mythic animals from various ancient traditions is not great. Plus, the Hebrew was horrific, to the point of being mildly offensive, calling the angels "elohim" as though that was a plural term and not in active use in a real world minority religion (especially given that "malakim" is a perfectly good word for them, and is used in a specific angelic name in the book, most of which are also terrible). Oh, and of course, it does include an offhand remark that "severely autistic people" are less fully human. That...needs to be excised.

However, when viewing it as a Milton-esque exercise it succeeds quite well when you get past those trappings. The Factions are all logical responses to the trauma of the rebellion and time in hell, and it combines themes from Vampire, Mage and Changeling in generally creative ways. The mechanics are solid and will need minimal updating for compatibility with 20th anniversary rules.

But the cultural insensitivity issues and the lack of research into the mythology that they're building on are sticking points. If the book were being written today, more research, more care with languages, better choice of proper nouns (even just using names for demons from different traditions instead of just gods, like calling one House Sheydim would not bother me, as an example) and of course, not putting "severely autistic" people into the same category as people who are comatose, braindead, and who've had their souls snuffed out.

So, a good game, but running it in a way that avoids these problems would take significant work.

I have sampled at a few different core guides and now I have finally found my first White Wolf game world that I will explore in depth. I find it a bit surprising but Demon the Fallen is the way forward, along with the World of Darkness core book (since they all depend upon that book). It would be quite an experience as a player if you had little foreknowledge to have this information about all kinds of evil suddenly thrust at you. It might be a challenge to the religion. It should be a blast. I am not sure how stable most people are in this day and age in this department. The one thing that I noticed in other game worlds is that the writers attempt to create a plausible argument for accepting the possibility in reality.

Demon: the Fallen is one of White Wolf's most imaginative and enjoyable games! I've read many of their books, and personally I put this in the top 3 alongside Vampire: The Masquerade and Hunter: The Reckoning.

The free-form complexity of acquiring worship and how your character goes about it leaves infinite routes for your players to create unique systems to garner the faith which their characters survive on. Truly phenomenal work, and a joy to read as well as play.

As the other review states, Demon: The Fallen centers on a Christian theme for its source of demonic forces. That's just something you've got to live with, as the whole of the World of Darkness is written around that ideological bent to an extent (except Werewolf, which is my absolute least favorite of their products).

Demon the Fallen is a good book laying the base for creating demons, it gives good explanation but it's centered too much on christinity, forgeting there is other origin for demons.
