ETU: Creature Feature - La Bruja

This is a great add on for the ETU RPG setting. This mini monster book focuses on the Brujah as it applies to ETU. The booklet includes the main write up along with four variations. It also includes four Savage Tales, each one featuring one of these variant Brujah.

The price vs page count is very reasonable and well worth the price. My hope is that we will see more Creature Features for ETU.

Not bad, I liked the art and layout. two minor points that would have made it better. If the font was a tad bigger, this old school gamers eyes aren't what they once were. and I would liked it have seen the world map from the book included so that it could have been printed as one of the player facing panels.

0 out of 5 for crap customer service

SO this review is mostly getting dinged due to By Night Studios CRUMMY customer service. The Rules and undated time line are pretty well done.

So just after the release of the PDF, I started noticing tons of positive reviews for the new version of the rules and while I didn't care for what we saw in the early previews I thought that there may be enough to make it worth getting. I was interested in the PDF/POD combo but had no idea of when it would be release. Since I know that Onyx Path tends to offer upgrades to the combo set if you buy the PDF before the combo is released I decided to contact By Night to see how they would be handling it.

After messaging By Night I got a reply from them stating that they intended to do the very same approach that Onyx Path does and allow those that get the PDF early to upgrade to the combo set. So I went ahead and bought the PDF. Over all I was super amazed on how well it came together and I was excited to get a physical book.

Fast forward to after the POD version is available, I see no mention on the upgrade I decided to contact them again, to see if there was a delay or if sadly there was no way for them to do it. I received a reply that didn't address my question. So I polite reworded my question in case there was confusion and waited a reply. No reply came, so I resent it, no reply, so I posted the question on their Facebook, no reply, asked again still no answer, all the while I saw them answering other question on they very same Facebook posts, and while addressing other questions that I posted about rules and availability of their other PDFs, so I know they were able to see my questions.

Each and every inquiry was politely worded, and would only have taken them a moment to answer. I get that things don't always workout, especially for smaller companies, and a “sorry those plans didn't work out as we hoped”, would have been crummy but reasonable, but ignoring it and hoping it goes away is BS way to handle things.

I held off posting this until now as I hoped they would have responded but they didn't.

Werewolf Translation Guide
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
by Steven J. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/25/2012 13:27:44

Here is my review for the new World of Darkness Translation Guide for the Werewolf lines. I will give the over all product a rating but I will also be giving each chapter a rating and why I am giving them those ratings. To be I am a huge fan of WTA and so I look at this product with that in mind. I really like the Current WOD rules set for their ease of play and clarity, but I do not care for the Forsaken setting.

Introduction – N/A A Good intro to both games but really at this point those buying this are familiar with the games/settings and this would count could have got to other sections.

TRIBES; 2 out of 5 Bad By far the BIGGEST let down in the whole process. The Tribes are treated as watered down lodges/camps in the different versions of the game. This may work for some of those out there but really feels like a cop-out and insulting to the spirit of Both games and those that play them.

Good Fighting Style: Kailino using the nwod rules.

SIGNS of the MOON; 4 out of 5 This section covers Auspices and Breed and handles the task very well.

  • Good Philodox, and Ragabash Auspices for use with Forsaken rules set. Irraka and elodoth Auspices for use with Apocalypse rules sets

Metis and Lupis breeds for use with Forsaken rules. Including names for them that fit the Forsaken setting.

Bad - Not a big section so nothing stands out as lacking

SPIRIT MAGIC; 3 out of 5 Covers Gifts, Rites and Fetishes, section is a little short and could have used more details.

Good – Instead of trying to convert a million gifts they give us rules for doing so ourselves

Bad – I would have liked to see more detailed examples and maybe a page listing several Common Rites and what their levels/Dice pools would be in the other system. Same for Fetishes.

TRAITS AND SYSTEMS 4 out of 5 Covers a lot of the other rules aspects,

GOOD - Rules for beefing up War form in Forsaken Harmony/ Threshold of Sin for Apocalypse Look at Frenzy in both games Renown including expanding it to the 5 types in Apocalypse Ancestors and Pure Breed as Merits for Forsaken rules set Pack Tactics for Forsaken rules set

THE SPIRIT WORLD 4 out of 5 A good comparative look of the 2 spirit worlds and how they differ. A section on converting Spirits from one setting to the other. Along with guide on powers.

It also includes rules for making Possessed in Forsaken, or making of the Ridden for Apocalypse. The Totems section is the weakest but due to the nature of Totems in Apocalypse, they are hardest and would say the advice that they give is pretty dead on and that some of the more powerful ones would be harder to duplicate without some ST lenience.

CHARACTER CONVERSION 4 out of 5 This section offers a step by step walk through of converting a character from one setting to the other.

The Highlight in this section is that it give a full example character sheet for BOTH settings.

While overall This was rather well done the handling of the Tribes is a HUGE let down and takes something that could have been great and what a lot of WTA fans would have wanted to something that is just pretty useful.

One of a pair of new Mirror Books. I felt this one was the much stronger of the two. More details, on what makes this sub-setting its own beast. I like the attention to detail on how shifting the current WOD into this sort of setting makes adjustments to those game lines. I wish that Bleeding Edge had been giving this sort of treatment. A Great addition to the WoD and Mirrors line.

Feels unfinished and somewhat lacking. I was looking forward and as a ST without a lot of extra time on my hands I find the lack of Pre-generated cybernetics and lack of better Netrunning rules a let down. Shorted then its counterpart book I feel that it may also be a tad over priced. Clocking in at only 20 pages after you factor in the cover and title pages. I think it should have been $3.99 instead of $4.99 or better yet add 7 pages and make it the same size as Mirrors: Infinite Macabre. Given the quality of all the other recent WoD offerings I felt this was a tad rushed and left me let down.

DC ADVENTURES Hero's Handbook
Publisher: Green Ronin Publishing
by Steven J. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/07/2011 23:51:10

To be up front I am a huge rpg geek and I love Superheroes and the DCU so I was looking forward to this book. The following is a general review of this book.

Good: Rules are generally pretty solid, if you liked the older version of M&M you will like this version. They did a good job on the lore/setting of the DCU.

Bad: The Editing/layout and word choices. I felt that it was difficult to find stuff in this book. I checked Chapter 8 Action & Adventuring to read up on combat (labeled as Conflicts ) and I find how to attack someone and defend but No way to deterring what the effects of getting hit are, in order to find that I had to check in the Powers Chapter. Another example the Psionic template on page 39 lists Mental Blast as a power the character has, but there is no power called Mental Blast, or even Blast, this falls under the Power Damage (Mental Blast). Seems as is they were trying way to hard to avoid terms that other Super games have used. Wish they would have gone for more classic and straight forward word choices even if they sounded more ‘Champions like’, and wish that chapter 8 was more straight forward even if that meant that you repeated yourselves a little.

Nit picking : Minor Fan boy nerd rage, they really gave Batman a higher Agility then Nightwing? Dick Grayson of the Flying Graysons, Circus Acrobat since he was 5, who has been shown time and time again in the comics as being far more agile then Bruce. Nightwing who’s number one ‘power’ in not being there to be hit, (vs. Batman who takes and lot more hits but just won’t stop). I was really disappointed in this, and hope that is addressed in the book of characters they are doing.

Do to the bad organization of really good material I would have to give this book 2 stars, especially new players I would have to say grab the old second ed M&M or wait until you can check out the new Mutants & Masterminds Hero's Handbook and hopefully the information will be presented clearer.

Bless and spells like that that effect more then one person should have been put into the Mass Buff Format also. As it is if I want to print Bless for all of my allies (to have it handy so they remember the effect) then I have to print that page 4 more times wasting a lot of ink and paper on cards I don't want

<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: I liked that it was color coded<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: the back of Transform is on stone skin and the back of stone skin is on the back of Transform.

Spells that can effect a number of party members at once (ie bless, good hope) should have been made to match the Mass Buff cards <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Disappointed<br><BR>[THIS REVIEW WAS EDITED]<BR>
