Strands of Fate
Publisher: Void Star Games
by Michael T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/18/2010 11:01:01
I've been moving to Fudge as the rule system of choice, but found I had to retain things like Starmada and Budget Battlefield to cover the spectrum of gaming I like. The Fate variant seemed almost perfect. Then came Strands of Fate. It _is_ perfect for me. It retains things like aspects "I Never Miss! (+2 to hit)", but is extended (fractally, as they say) to scale up to include units of NPCs, organizations, vehicles of any TechLevel, and entire empires if one chooses.
I've unsubscribed to many of my Yahoo groups and am now focused on Strands of Fate, converting/creating favorite characters, beasts, races, wizards, interstellar scout ships, and SteamPunk dirigibles to SoF.
Buy it. 470 pages in both screen and printer-friendly versions. I love it!

Adventures and Expeditions By G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.
Publisher: LMW Works
by Michael T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/01/2009 10:35:56
I bought this hoping it to be a significant expansion on G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. proper, but as an experienced RPG GM, I felt that adding 4 traits to characters and slightly modifying the Advantage/Disadvantage tables fell short of my expectations. It's a good set of rules for VSF and plays quickly, but you'll need to be a fan of the genre already to get the most benefit.
I like the whole GASLIGHT package, but feel that if you own the base rules, A&EbG is seriously overpriced.

Pulp Sci-Fi Set
Publisher: Arion Games
by Michael T. [Verified Purchaser]

If you're using Poser figures rather than drawn ones, this set will fit in well.
I appreciate the bases not being fully blacked, saving me a bit of ink.

Quactica: Battles for the Soul of Middle Aesopia
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing
by Michael T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 06/27/2008 22:41:31
Have you ever wanted to lead a fearless band of armed Quacedonian ducks against the porcine hordes of Porkor, even though you may also have to face the frenzy of Sporks mounted on Timber Chihuahua?
Ever wonder if your Hosstrich cavalry can stand against the Dark Felines on their Pit Poodles? Has a JobberQuackie or a Hareball eaten your scout?

With Quactica, you can find out. The game mechanics are simple, especially if you've ever played a skirmish game from someone else. What you'll find here and no where else, though, is a sense of humor heavily dosed with outrageous puns (the Dark Felines came to Middle Aesopia when Catlantis sank...) and spiff artwork (the Hareball alone is worth the admission).

Inside all this is a thoroughly well-thought world with all the familiar fantasy forces twisted just a half-bubble off-plumb. Ten minutes into reading this and I abandoned my own fantasy world without a tear.

Buy it. Read it. Play it.

Scooter Scoter, Bard of Scoteland.

eFuture Tiles: Galactic Transport
Publisher: SkeletonKey Games
by Michael T. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/20/2007 14:27:25
These tiles are a welcome addition to the eFuture line, though I've yet to find quite as many possible configurations as in the starship package. The basic transport (as shown in the product preview) makes a 23" x 33" transport with an 8x12 cargo bay.
It is easy to remove a row for a smaller transport, and with a little creative use of an alternate corner tile, even add a column down the center for a really large transport.

The only thing that kept me from awarding the highest rating was my desire to build a transport with some measure of defensive weaponry. You _could_ just declare that one of the command chairs is the weapon station, but I prefer something a bit more clear.

Otherwise, you're all set for a star trader or a fleet transport.
Well worth the price!
