A nice set of high-quality tiles for any fantasy or medieval RPG that uses miniatures. Use these maps for those obligatory times when your players all meet in a tavern. These tiles are very detailed and colorful, and don't have much of that cut-and-paste repetition you often see in other maps and tilesets. All parts of the tavern are included, even the basement and roof.

People's Revolution: Villains of WWII (ICONS)
Publisher: Vigilance Press

Another collection of WWII-era superhero source material from Vigilance Press. This time it's a collection of Soviet Supers - Red Hammer, Night Witch, Ice Fang, Trans-Siberian Express, Red Legionnaire, Battle Czar, Sovi-Ape, Revolutionary Fire, and Kastaka (Killer Whale). Each has a great illustration, and full backstory. Great for use with ICONS or any WWII era four-color superhero RPG (after a bit of conversion, of course).

Six Japanese supervillians, and a race of Banmin ("savage men") for ICONS (or could be used for any other WWII-themed superhero RPG, with a bit of conversion. The illustrations are very good, and each villain appears on their own page, which is always convenient for anyone wishing to print them out.

Hold Em Scene Generator: Medieval Edition
Publisher: Vulpinoid Studios
by William W. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 03/02/2012 08:48:46
An ingenious method of using a standard deck of cards to play a variant of Texas Hold 'Em that helps to develop a story. Each suit represents different types of influences (Hearts are emotional, Clubs are physical, Diamonds are mystical, and Spades are intellectual), and each phase of the game represents different story elements (location, situation, intention, escalation, and resolution). A series of tables provides meanings for each individual card in each phase.

The game can not only develop a current story, it can be used to develop backstory as well, which could be a great way to spice up character generation.

This is a very clever tool for random story inspiration.

Two humans - one male, one female - appear to have stepped out of the safety of the inn to confront something in the evening fog. This full-color image is a bit creepy and atmospheric, and would make a good choice for a full column (or "skyscraper") illustration in an RPG book or supplement.

[d20] Complete Characters #8 - Seldr the Starseer
Publisher: Jason Richards Publishing
by William W. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 03/02/2012 08:27:58
I'm a big fan of this series. The characters are unique and well detailed, and there is an incredible amount of story-rich material packed in just a few pages, with a high-quality piece of character art to top all of it off. The "Tweaks" section gives the GM several options to customize the character to his liking.

Seldr is a stargazer and soothsayer, and could possibly have come to your world from another far away. To help Seldr find messages among the stars, this document contains a simple set of soothsaying rules, in case your system lacks them. Beyond that, this product is systemless, so that you can use it with the RPG system of your choosing.

Sir Aric is a ruthless and ill-tempered man with strange appetites and a dark reputation. Is he really the child of evil forces, as rumors suggest - or could he be just the opposite?

Codex Martialis: Weapons of the Ancient World - Part 1, Melee Weapons
Publisher: Ire Games
by William W. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 03/02/2012 08:11:20
An incredibly detailed and thorough document on historical weaponry for the OGL 3.5 rules. While this book may not have the fancy design and layout of many other RPG books, it makes up for this in content - a glossary of weapon terms, historical context, a brief history of metallurgy, new weapon rules (shield hooking, slashing the weapon hand, etc.), with color and black and white illustrations and photos on practically every page.

Not many gamers desire this level of detail in their RPGs, but if you're looking to fact-check your historical OGL game, this is the book to have. I don't often give five stars to a product, but this book perfectly accomplishes its goal, and has well earned it.

City Slices I: Marketplace Fun
Publisher: Escape Velocity Gaming
by William W. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 03/02/2012 07:48:09
City Slices is a collection of interesting characters, events, and encounters that the DM can use to help add color and life to fantasy cities.

The encounters and events draw the characters in to the environment around them - stopping a runaway cart, helping a child find his parents, getting hired to do some shopping for the Emperor, etc. - and some of them can even lead to other encounters in the book, or to future adventure seeds (one of the rewards for the shopping trip, for example, is an invitation to the next royal ball).

The second section of the book is a list of unique and unusual booths and shops in the marketplace, to give a bit of variety to an otherwise ordinary bazaar.

City Slices is a great sourcebook for bringing life to city-based RPG sessions - while the label says 4e, this material can be easily used with any RPG with very little to no conversion. I'm looking forward to seeing other offerings in this series.

A collection of five colorful NPCs that your Pathfinder players can encounter during a dungeon delve. The PDF is bookmarked for ease of browsing - a feature that I wish more publishers would use.

A beautiful set of fantasy art - six armed and armored anthropomorphic animals in dynamic poses. The pictures are excellent, but I have to agree with the previous reviewer - it would have been much better to have them on separate pages of a PDF, or as a collection of JPGs, rather than on a single page/image file.

Households
Publisher: Columbia Games Inc.
by William W. [Featured Reviewer]
Date Added: 03/01/2012 15:15:02
A great article for Harnworld, reprinted from a classic 1992 sourcebook. Households presents a system of management for the households of player characters - residents, household skills, working conditions, budgeting, standard of living, and much more. It adds a level of detail and complexity to the RPG that may only appeal to a few players - mostly those who get enjoyment out of managing details.

While specifically written for Harn, the rules in this booklet could be used for expanding rules for other fantasy RPGs as well.
