Great for any RPG setting if you drop the system. Some locations are the standard (Tavern), some are not (the dump). Extensive section on castles.

Probably the best mystery RPG supplement ever made. Different each time as you can choose the perpetrator, the victim, and the motive each time. Exceptiionally well done.

Fiasco: 1913 New York

I'm not sure. Maybe I was hoping for a bit more of a link to 1913 NY but except for some of the street names it felt very generic. Instead it is a list of names, places, events, etc. set up in a d6 random list. So you can have (6) Tommy from (3) East Side with (1) No Family and (1) Rum running. I think I was hopping for more color description of the city, life, street scenes.

Shadows of Midnight: Mary's Tower
Publisher: Alternate Realities Publications
by Tim L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/18/2010 06:48:12

Shadows of Midnight has published three adventure locations, and I recommend them because of their links to The Unexplained (Carnivore Games, http://carnivoregames.com/wp/).

"Mary's Tower" (36 pages) is totally systemless and focues on a location and its surroundings, provinding the same detailed descriptions of paranormal and non-paranormal research done along with photographs.

The text is farily easy to read (except for the introduction which is a little blurry) and the printing is quick for most of the documents (some slight delay for the heavier colors).

I recommend them.

Shadows of Midnight has published three adventure locations, and I recommend them because of their links to The Unexplained (Carnivore Games, http://carnivoregames.com/wp/).

"Jackson House" (33 pages) is totally systemless and focuses on just one location, now burned to the ground. Again, the book is filled with creepy color photos (taken before it was razed), a detailed description of the premise (including the author's own observations "when I photographed this...") and a variety of uses for non-paranormal use ("police investiation", "stolen property", "the bet", "the inheritance".)

I recommend them.

Shadows of Midnight: West Milford
Publisher: Alternate Realities Publications
by Tim L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 08/18/2010 06:41:35

Shadows of Midnight has published three adventure locations, and I recommend them because of their links to The Unexplained (Carnivore Games, http://carnivoregames.com/wp/).

"West Milford", although containing a few stat blocks for d20, is 97 pages of Unexplained weirdness: paranormal sites, UFOs, cryptozological sightings. It contains the creepiest photos taken by the author (a resident of the state of NJ) who did extensive research into the sites.

Not only is each site explained, but you get driving directions! The author also provides non-paranormal explanations of all sites, includes a mini-campaign that connects them in a bloody modern-day Cult war (Slasher-film style), character templates (for d20 but easily portable) and advice for using the entries for a variety of other uses (police investigation, UFO). Also includes are modern-day horrors ("new elementals"), the Radon monster and the Lead monster (spontaneously oozing out of the radiation-infected local or the lead-poisoned homes).

Note that the primary focus for the mini-campaign focues on the incredibly disturbing Cult slayings that focus one of the claims of the area (Demon Alley -- only one of the backgrounds, but a slaughter-house mess) but do include the ghost-hauntings as well.

100 Spaceship Traits
Publisher: Second Rat Games
by Tim L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/19/2010 06:43:34

Spaceships in RPGs can be characters themselves.

The choices of words to describe that space ship are evocative and you know how to roleplay its use, either as a character itself or a prop to be used in a lot of systems. But when it comes my turn...

And I wish I were able to describe things like that. All my descriptions tend to be traditional.

So if you are ever for lack of ideas, "100 Spaceship Traits" is a great way to add color and flavor to your spaceships.

All one hundred are listed on a single page. Roll three times and work the chosen words (or phrases) into your ship's Advantages/Gifts/Edges, Disadvantages/Faults, description, back history, or even game mechanics (Stealth Mode: list rating here).

All one-hundred words and phrases are then described on the following pages. Most are purely space-opera (Boudoir, Cranky Spin Drive) so if you want more hard-SF you'll have to look elsewhere.

If you play Fudge or FATE especially, these words and phrases are instantly tag-able (sure you can have a finned rocket in Spirit of the Century that has Unreliable FTL on your way to Mongo).

GM'S COOKBOOK: Superhero Subplots #1
Publisher: Big Finger Games
by Tim L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/09/2010 07:05:51

I wanted a bit more in ths product. The idea is like the other plot seed PDFs (100 Planets, Horror Adventure Seeds, for example) but just too short and too few! On the other hand, the "sub-plot" hooks (they're all about "between the major actions") are clear and concise and live up to the "cookbook" approach. Then again, this is Superheroes and I was expecting a bit more plothooks about the central conflicts of the genre. However they do inspire adventures so they succeeded.

AfterPeak
Publisher: FreeFall RPG Studios
by Tim L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/26/2009 11:53:10

After the Peak by Al Seeger

The tone of After Peak is a post-apocalypse world somewhat realistically set after all the oil is gone (therefore energy shortages). This gritty beginning then takes two left turns. The equivalent of Noah's Ark starship crashes on the planet (giving hope to new energy sources at the price of alien animals wandering around) and a "veil" of energy sweeps over the planet clensing out all radiation and chemical spills but leaving behind a magical (or psionic) field that followers of Light or Darkness can access by doing certain deeds.

As you can see, some cliches of the apocalypse are avoided (no Loony-Tunes Gamma World charm), no stone-age barbarians (Thundaar the Barbarian), and the magical-miracle-psionic driven Veil is so new that not many have figured it out.

An alien and Veil-bestiary, an economic trading system, advice on character generation for any RPG system, which skills and weapons are common or exotic, and MADS-system generated characters round out the substantial PDF.

The overall systemless setting holds together quite well. For example, a creature's abilities are listed as:

Level: Low (out of Medium, High, Powerful, and Strong) Defense: Medium Spirit: High Toughness: High Combat Attacks: 1 unarmed, Low damage Combat Tactics: Low

The Light and Darkness (GM decides if it is magic, psionics, spirits, or other) depend on a number of acts the character must do to reach various tiers (ranks). Several minor acts gets to Tier 1 (such as giving to the poor), several major acts gets to Tier 2 (such as give all your possessions to a stranger), and several great acts gets to Tier 3 (such as selflessly putting yourself in harms' way). All that is for Light. Darkness acts are appropriately disturbing.

Each rank gives access to more powerful abilities (such as summonging Veil beasts).

The campain information gives Wisconnsin as an example setting, but the PDF also includes information on your own setting: "First look at what you know. What has changed? What beasts are around? What has the Veil changed?")

Note that the PDF is scanned jpegs, the size is 152 or more megabites and takes a good 20 minutes to download even on a T1 connection.

If this information grabs you, then this systemless setting of realism world view with elements of science fiction elements and Veil demons could provide years of campaigning.

FUDGE Karma Kards

This is a good product to have if you do not have Fudge dice (or even if you do). The Karma game included is fairly easy to incorporate as well. The only fault is that you can not generate more rolls: you're stuck with what you got on the PDF print out. I recommend this product to Fudge players and GMs.

Disposable StarMaps: Set 1
Publisher: Precis Intermedia

Date Added: 07/31/2009 07:30:21

This is really neat. You get two different maps of the same image: a starscape. One is black and white, one is color. This is six pictures overall -- the color set is labeled with names on some of the stars that have planets which you can replace with your own names as well as possible political bountaries (or spheres of influence). You would have to drawn in any travel routes. You can't change the star positions, however.
