What do you do if you are a successful RPG company with lots of material from a previous edition of a ruleset but no desire to update to the new one? Easy, stripout the rules and sell it as a "Cometary" book.
Sex, Dice and Gamers chicks combines material from Mongoose's previous Slayer Guides to Female Gamers, Rules Lawyers, and Game Masters. There is new material including a bit how those guides were meant to be humorous accounts on the characters we see at the game table (or don't see) all the time.
While I did get what the authors were trying to do, that doesn't really mean that they did a particularly good job of it.
There is humor in this book and you can see there is respect for the types they skewer here, some or rather most of the jokes fall pretty flat. One or two jabs at WotC and the new D&D4 rules is funny, three is fine given that this particular company had seen most of their product suddenly go out of date, but more than that comes off as snarky and unprofessional. Guess where this book comes in at?
Some of the humor had me laughing out loud, others had me going "I know that guy!" others though left me wondering if this was a published book or a collection of RPG Message Board posts.
In the end if you really like gamer humor, and Mongoose's only brand of gamer humor then this is funny book.
But the appeal to all but the most die hard gamer is limited.
The cover art is actually very cool, the interior art though is so reminiscent of Jim Holloway (D&D, Paranoia, Chill) that I thought it had to be him, but it was not.
