Very nice, but my least favorite of the 3 currently (!) available. Certainly fills a need though, the default map ends up very large and is good for a large open area, which the other 2 maps don't provide, so it fits well with them. Great for the end of a running battle trying to escape to the hangar bay and an escape ship, or the place where a large assault might begin.

Not perfect though, because the one thing that is missing is a link to the other maps. There are no corridors off this map so the only way In or Out is through the hangar bays themselves, making this a dead end. One page with a corridor off the back would be very welcome.

Sci fi maps 2

The first thing that is stuck me about the maps is the quality of the artwork, Like the other sets I have purchased from Talisman studios the art work is attractive and detailed without becoming over complex and detracting from the presentation or the functionality. The fact that it is a large hangar map does mean that there is a limited amount of variation in the tiles which is amplified by the reuse of the same tiles to create the whole map. Although I think the repetition effect has been reduced by the small variations in colouration on the floor tiles. One minor thing I noticed on the second map the mapping lines are over laid on a couple of the boxes. Now its not big deal and isn?t something that?s going to spoil someone Roleplay experience but is just a little inconsistency with the other maps.

The single large map at the end is quite a nice touch. Im not entirely sure of the original reason behind its inclusion but I have thought of three uses for it. It would allow you to print the map of in a single section if you have access to that scale printing, but which would cause you to loose some of the detail that makes this product stand out. It also shows exactly how the pieces are designed to be laid out, although using the separate pieces you can probably put together some interesting variations. And thirdly if you don?t have enough room to lay out all the map sections or in fact only have one of each section printed it allows you to give the players a broad overview of their surroundings while carrying out the action on the high detail sections.

One thing that is missing which I would have liked to see is a page of additional scenery, that could be cut out and placed on the maps to add points of interest and improve the variation. A few placeable crates and boxes, maybe some tools, some tech, possibly an oil spill maybe even a small ship all to the same quality of artwork would have really added to the product.

All in all a decent product, I have to admit I am from the hand scribbled school of RPG mapping and was a bit unsure of the concept of buying maps. Having purchased this product and sci-fi map set 1, the deep space out post, I am now more willing to experiment in purchasing maps especially if they are of this quality. I hope that the Sci-fi maps will continue and that more maps will become available allowing the creation of ships and stations.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
