The book has some interesting ideas but by far its biggest and most painful shortcoming is that it is extrodinarily poorly laid out and wastes a tremendous amount of pages space. It is much worse the the same PDF suggests (which is not that good). The poor formatting is so bad that it is barely usable, I spent the weekend rebuilding and it turning into a well orgainzied and laid out print quality 137 page document (down from 411 pages) when i found that the author is selling a well formatted version on Lulu for $20. Why is that version not available here as a PDF? The 411 page version of Afterpeak hurts the eyes.

I love this concept. It is very broad and open to interpretation which is exactly what I was looking for. Like another reviewer stated, this concept does not include nuclear holocaust but does have magic. I have several characters who all want to play together: a GURPS Wiccan lone practitioner, a HarnWorld borderlord, a D&D scout and a Curse of the Moon werewolf! With this concept I can use the Veil (as the revenge of Gaia)coming through on the Mayan 2012 date, set it on a Y2K abandoned farm, make the werewolf afflicted, put everybody back to novice level and watch the fur fly (on and off the table)! Wonderful!

I would have liked a few more pictures of the beastiary but, since I won't be using most of them, it won't really matter.

Certainly a lot of useful ideas in this product for campaigning in a world without oil. I've ran this system using d20 modern and it worked quite well. I especially like how the setting avoids the typical nuclear wasteland swarming with mutants that I've seen in a lot of post-apocalyptic products.
