Monster Focus: Skeletons Six pages with cover and OGL. Presents some material for customizing skeletons and those that deal with these low level monsters. New uses for Knowledge (Religion), new feats, alchemical items and spells. New magical items, new monsters and some adventure ideas. Crammed into just half-a-dozen pages, pretty good really.

The Nemesis Bestiary Volume One An interesting concept. 20 monsters complete with stat-blocks, art and description of their special abilities. There is almost no "fluff", just "crunch" to this book. The idea is you create the background yourself. A lot of the monsters have origins that can be explained (undead, abberation) others just beg for their story to be told (whore eater and God Sperm for example). Each monster was created in response to a piece of art. So somethings form can flow from function (Arm Stealer) or something else entirely. If you want a book of ready use monsters, sans backgrounds, then this is a good choice....

Skull Throne Wow. You get a lot more here than I expected. You get a hi-res view of the room from above. A flash file to se the room in 3d (really nice) And a PDF to print out and put together. If you have an evil necromancer, vampire or demon in your game that needs a throne room then this is a great choice.

Mazes & Perils RPG NOTE: This is an updated review. A while back I wrote a review for Mazes & Perils, a 2012 Holmes-Basic Retro-clone from Vincent Florio. http://timbrannan.blogspot.com/2012/09/review-maz-
es-perils-2012.html The 3rd printing/edition is now out (or rather it has been out for a bit) and I promised then I would re-review it. This new version is cleaned up considerably and it does look like it has been rewritten. It is still free and the idea here (I think) is to provide a means to play "D&D Basic" or provide a common ruleset to allow people to create Basic-era compatible works. As a goal, that is a pretty solid one really. At 61 pages it is also really tight and it is also free. I do want to address some of the issues that plagued the previous editions, but only as a means to talk about the improvements on this edition. Like I said, the text has largely been rewritten. It now reads less like someone with a copy of Holmes Basic on their lap, but instead someone t...

Deep Blues: Victorian House

Deep Blues: Victorian House Here is a magnificent Victorian-style house, standing in its own grounds, and presented in exquisite detail. It's up to you whether it is as creepy as the Addams Family home or warm and welcoming... In this product, 0one Games have taken their customary mastery of PDF technology and used it to present a mapset that is easy to customise to your needs. Working at individual page level or via the 'Rule the Dungeon' feature to customise the entire mapset at one go, there are a lot of things that you can change. There is a choice of hex grid, square grid, metric grid or none at all. You can decide which way is North, and whether or not you want it to be shown. You can have furnished or bare rooms... and of course you can decide whether you want 'blueprints' (white lines on a blue background like a classic technical drawing) or black lines on white. The house itself is three stories high, and has a driveway leading up to it as well as a quite extensive garden. As well as a view of each...

ICONS: Great Power
par H. M. L.
Editeur: Ad Infinitum Adventures
Date Ajoutée: 05/13/2013 11:22:06
ICONS: Great Power Great Power updates the ICONS power rules with more detail, more flexibility, and greater variety, while remaining true to the original game's rules-light sensibilities. Extras, Stunts, and Limits allow powers to be customized to suit just about any concept a player can come up with. More detailed information is provided for nearly every power, explaining how to apply it in game terms, and indicating which Extras and Limits work well with it. The power list here is better organized than the one in the original book, so it's easier to find the specific ability you're looking for. Many 'constructed powers' like Prehensile Hair and Possession get their own entries in the alphabetical list which refer the reader back to the necessary Powers, Extras, and Limits used to build them. It's very easy to use as a reference during play. The artwork is by Dan Houser, so the book has strong visual continuity with the rest of the ICONS line, but the updated layout and power-icons give the whol...

Editeur: Spica Publishing

Field Manual I can’t decide if this is a great companion to Mongoose Book 1 Mercenary, or a better version of it. It just reads like a more complete look at day-to-day life for Mercs. Also includes an entire subsector (in Foreven), a new alien race and an adventure. Layout and typography are really slick, very well organized, and a must for anyone incorporating the military into Traveller (not just Mongoose, but looks tot be useful for Classic as well).

Allies, Contacts, Enemies & Rivals Really great collection of NPCs, many of them collected as crews (traders, survey team, mercs) and, in one case, an entire marine platoon. I really like the look of the Psionic Tactical (PsiTac) Team. Enhanced by the exceptional typography and layout work I see in almost all Spica products.

Traveller ROBOTS
par Robert S. J.
Editeur: 13Mann Verlag
Date Ajoutée: 05/13/2013 10:00:13
Traveller ROBOTS Although it's for Mongoose Traveller, Traveller - ROBOTS (125 pages) by 13Mann is not Mongoose's Book 9: Robot (100 pages), which primarily focused on robots as Player Characters and had (IMO) a disappointing and flawed design system that still needs errata. ROBOTS is a completely different book with a different approach. The best way to illustrate this is to detail the contents: Full Table of Contents (and the PDF is fully bookmarked!) 1. INTRODUCTION 2. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ROBOTS (Robots in the 3I, outside of the 3I, Zhodani, Ancients, Solomani, Corporations, Hiver, 2000 Worlds, etc.) 3. CAREERS (Three related careers for PCs: Robot Specialist, Cyberdoc, and Programmer) 4. HOW TO BUILD A COMPUTER/ROBOT (one page outlining the steps of the Computer and Robot Design Sequences) 5. COMPUTERS (everything related to designing your hardware and software, networks, digital personalities, AI, Hacking etc.) 6. ROBOTS AND DRONES (Difference between Robots and Drones, and the desc...

World of Darkness: The God Machine Rules Update I reviewed the GMC rules update for my GM blog, Run a Game, here: http://runagame.blogspot.com/2013/05/god-machine-ch-
ronicle-system-review.html Here are some parts of the system I loved: - Improved combat system: Starts with declaring intent so not every fight is just a kill-or-be-killed battle to the death; killing is hard - "Integrity" is the new morality stat, and it's more of a sanity stat - finally moving away from the V:tM Humanity model from the 90s! - The experience point system got a heavy revision. Now XP come mostly from player actions, and the scale is linear (X points, instead of X*[new rating]) The bad... - The new social maneuvers system is too much system. It doesn't seem to serve any helpful purpose, and can screw the story up with some too-good or too-bad rolls. - Extended actions are still pretty bad. Easy: Just don't use them. - Tying experience points to player actions can be rough on wallflower players and puts more demand on the GM to act as a ...

101 Variant Monsters (PFRPG)
par Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Editeur: Rite Publishing
Date Ajoutée: 05/13/2013 07:01:23
101 Variant Monsters (PFRPG) Do you have those annoying sort of players who seemingly have memorised every monster and so as soon as the first few words of description pass your lips they rattle off the name and known weaknesses of the critter before a single die is rolled? (If not, you've never had me at your table, a side-effect of an eidetic memory & reading a LOT of RPG books means I have to be very careful not to be so annoying...) A common tactic, especially if you do not have the time or inclination to make up hordes of original opponents for your characters, is the so-called 'reskinning' of monsters - changing enough of a standard monster so that he's mechanically the same but looks and feels like a wholly new critter. Even that can be quite taxing and requires a good understanding of the game mechanics underlying monster design. So here, nicely ordered by CR, are a host of variant monsters all ready to line up against your characters. Each entry gives the name of the new variant with the original...

One Shot w/ Soundtrack Originally posted at: http://diehardgamefan.com/2013/05/13/tabletop-review-one-sho-
t/ One of the delightful things about reviewing role-playing games is getting to see what is out there and, sometimes, finding a gem or at least something that is intriguing. I first was intrigued by the title of this game, which in its complete form is One Shot: A Roleplaying Game of Sacrifice and Vengeance for Two Players, and the fact that it comes with its own soundtrack. Also, it is mercifully short and to the point compared to most role-playing games. The clear layout and straightforward writing also contribute to its ease of use. So, what’s it like? Vengeance One Shot is essentially a scenario with very basic rules to facilitate its play. It is not really a role-playing game in the traditional sense (cue arguments over what a role-playing game is…). It is quite unconventional, and I like that a lot. The premise is that one player will create and play a character who has been wronged by som...
