The Genius Guide to Gruesome Giants
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Rogue Genius Games
Date Added: 07/08/2014 09:45:44
The Genius Guide to Gruesome Giants Set aside any concept of friendly giants, for here is a selection of templates, feats and alternative class options to make your giants foul and grim foes, as well as big ones. The idea is to make them more fearful and threatening, and something more unusual than merely overly large humanoids that hit really, really hard. Each template confers a 'shock value' which represents a disturbing quality your run-of-the-mill giant does not possess. The first couple of pages outline the concepts involved, including necessary rule mechanics, and then we move on to the templates themselves. The first is the collector - a weird and quite unpleasant template in which the giant adorns himself with the body parts of former foes. It even fights with body parts, clawed arms being popular weapons. Another is the contorted, a creature that bends at odd places rather than having the joints you'd expect of a regular humanoid. Both are quite disturbing in appearance. Formoreans are also deformed ...

Battlemap : Octagon Shrine
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Christian Hollnbuchner
Date Added: 07/08/2014 08:37:17
Battlemap : Octagon Shrine This battlemap presents a beautiful and peaceful shrine with an Oriental feel to it. The sort of place you might go to meditate or celebrate, it somehow doesn't feel right to use it for a brawl... And yet. it's quite easy to think of reasons why a fight might break out. Despite its calm and peaceful appearance, the shrine may be dedicated to an evil god. Or you may be called upon to defend it against the powers of darkness... or you may just be an adventurer in search of loot. Set in a forest clearing, the shrine is mounted on two platforms set at angles to one another, which gives an interesting set of terrain for multi-level action. You get a multi-page PDF with a square grid and a ZIP file which only contains one giant JPEG image of the scene without a grid, for use with virtual tabletop systems or if you have access to poster-printing facilities. You can, of course, edit or label the JPEG version before use....

d30 Sandbox Companion

d30 Sandbox Companion An impressive collection of inventive ideas for random generation, presented with an old-school look and charm. Just flipping through the book filled me with ideas for my next campaign ("Cult generator? Hmmm, maybe I should add a cult for them to encounter..."). and the adventure generators are fantastic for impromptu games. The premise may seem gimmicky but the execution isn't, and the author's true passion for OSR gaming really shows. I don't often give five stars for a product, but this one has definitely earned them....

Vornheim: The Complete City Kit

Vornheim: The Complete City Kit It's rare to find a product this evocative; I've only done so a few times before. It combines inspiration and a touch of odd with soo much utility. It'll be one of your best friends at the table. It's sad that it's out of print right now, because I would really love a physical copy.

Splinterwood: FREE! Elven Hero & Standard

Splinterwood: FREE! Elven Hero & Standard I've been following the artist, Aaron Hopkins, for almost a year now, on both his page at DeviantArt, and on the Cardboard Warriors forum. He's been hard at work on an original wargame for more than a year (Temporum Oblitus - coming soon to a printer and then table near you), and just recently started creating the figures that have become the Splinterwood. Amazingly, the Splinterwood is the result of a lost bet - one that we fantasy paper craft gamers have all won. Aaron's already got a vivid and ever increasingly detailed backstory for it, which I hope will see publication in a cohesive form sometime soon. His figures are dynamic, original, and lovingly detailed, and they fit in well with paper minis from publishers such as One Monk, OkumArts, Reivaj, and others, and terrain I already have from Fat Dragon, Lord ZseZse, and Dave Graffam. As for the previous reviewer's problems with malware? Well, I don't have an antivirus active (that I know of, I leave too much of that up to hubby...

Vornheim: The Complete City Kit
by Jeremy F.
Publisher: Lamentations of the Flame Princess

Vornheim: The Complete City Kit Vornheim is a fantastic toolkit for building a decadent fantasy urban sprawl campaign. This short book packs a mighty wallup! You should not expect this to be Encyclopedia Vornheim. It instead provides a skeletal framework and palette on which you can layer, via the tools in the book, your version of Vornheim. Its a bit of a Frankenstein's monster, tethered to the wire table, storm brewing, waiting for the bolt of lightning to ignite the life within. Having already had a physical copy of this book, I wanted a PDF copy as well. The physical book is amongst my most treasured RPG books. It is a reliable source for inspiration, not because it is a complete setting, but because it evokes a richness of setting that could never be fully explored....

Vornheim: The Complete City Kit the only remotely useful parts are already free blogposts on the dude's website I guess I'm not a table junky, and I find the content mostly unimaginative tween's first black metal style garbage. Tried using it in play but it's more cumbersome and less interesting than anything I made up on the spot, especially with the trite and juvenile assumed setting and terrible art.

Elven Hero & Standard I do not like this product, because upon attempting to unzip it, it installed malware, and changed my default browser, and reset my homepage to the homepage for Rocket Browser! Crimson Lords: Dark Fantasy RPG Supplement As usual Simon has created a rules light game that captures the feel of the genre perfectly. Crimson Lords is an excellent supplement to Crimson Blades as it adds a even more life to the world and for the PC's. If you like rules-lite and dark fantasy this may be the game for you. It definitely is mine

The Temple of Modren Free Preview
by Jason H.

Date Added: 07/07/2014 13:05:40
The Temple of Modren Free Preview Do you miss the nostalgia days of Gaming? Then you need to get in to the World of Aetaltis where The Temple of Modren resides. Simple and open ended gameplay are the watchwords of this Advetnure from both a Players and a DMs standpoint. There is no tedious flipping back and forth because the entry for something is not on a convenient page. Making the DMs life so much easier goes a long way to giving the Players a great time as it cuts down a lot on the "Wait..I need to find this page.." delays. The Temple of Modren gives you a near perfect blend of traditional Fantasy Gaming mixed with just a few fascinating hints as to what the further world of Aetaltis might have to offer. It doesn't needlessly overburden a DM with mountains of extraneous details that simply won't come up on an Introductory Adventure. It does however fire the imaginations of everyone involved!...

Hunter: Mortal Remains
by Shelby B.
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
Date Added: 07/07/2014 10:48:35
Hunter: Mortal Remains It's a grab-bag, trying to cover five different monster types, and do so with a limited word count. And then it adds some new mechanics and bits on top of that. But is it good? Depends on what you want. We start with Prometheans, and it's decent enough. Given the rarity (and uniqueness) of the "Created", there aren't any dedicated groups focused around them, which makes sense. We then get a lot of material on how the existing compacts try to view Created, and what tools and records the Conspiracies have. Actually, a lot of it is more how -Prometheans- see these groups, rather than the other way around. And the tools are more "generic" in their usefulness, rather than specific to fighting Tammuz and Golems. There's also some sample Created, using HtV mechanics, along with story hooks and ideas for how to handle things at different tiers. Probably one of the best chapters of the book to be honest. Next up is a chapter on Changelings that... I'll be blunt, the rest of the...

Nebin Pendlebrook's Perilous Pantry (DCC)
