Laws of the Night: Storytellers Guide [Standard White Wolf Cross Referencing Complaint] I feel it is unwise for the back cover to include anything about this book being suitable for players. The new toys in this book are very much antagonist focused, and really should not be let into the game unless you are truly embracing the "Superhero with Fangs" aspect of Vampire. That said, the provides a wealth of new toys for NPCs to play with to keep your game interesting. Some of the new systems can bring some fun to the game, though I tend to feel those are best for small groups (5 players) or in groups where splitting off a small party is common....

Laws of the Night: Camarilla Guide [Standard White Wolf Cross Referencing Complaint] Art: Oh boy. I would accuse it of being camera phone photography, but the book predates wide spread use of camera phones. Worst example is the picture they use for the Gargoyle bloodline... I will leave it as an exorcise to the reader to cringe at that. Layout: Its sane, but with cross referencing issues common to most old White Wolf books, it could be better. New Splat Content: It is just... more. For the most part the new Discipline content is for generations that I would never allow in a game, or have only been rarely allowed in games where I was strictly a player. The new paths for Tremere are helpful, and don't break the setting. The Gargoyles are detailed in this book, but are almost unplayable PCs in a Cam setting. They should have been in the Sabbat guide. New Setting Content: Feels somewhat rehash-y of the core book. The Cam is the default setting for Vampire, so out of necessity, the core Laws of the Night ...

Laws of the Night: Sabbat Guide [Insert White Wolf Standard Cross Referencing Complaints] There are really 2 parts of this book - the part that is the new toys for characters (disciplines, clans, bloodlines, merits, flaws, paths, etc) and the part that details the Sect. The new toys are....new. There is some interesting things here, but it is for the most part, just more stuff. It works, and does what you would expect. The detailing of the sect itself is well written and puts a face on the sect that previous editions of Vampire lacked. It adds some depth, and turns the Sabbat into something playable....

Bloodmoon Goblins (PFRPG) This is a fun read. I have to say, this is the first module I have sat down and read cover to cover for its entertainment. The writing is witty with an acerbic sense of humor. The setting is detailed enough to paint the picture in your mind without going into excruciating detail. I found the tactics used by the goblins if their warrens are raided to be insightful, and has proven to be deadly to a group of low level characters that tried it. And it has the best bard in all of D&D/Pathfinder history. It left me wanting more, in a good way....

Mind's Eye Theatre Dark Epics This book, while it gives some decent advice, is almost entirely skipable. There are a few common sense things that it spells out (or at least they were obvious to me), and a few decent ideas on how to handle influence. If I were to go back in time to before I bought the book, I might not have. I don't regret the purchase, but it has not made an epic difference in my games... pun intended.

Laws of the Night (Revised) Lets get a few things out of the way: This is an old White Wolf book, so the index, while being there, is not as helpful as I would like. Any 'See Page XX' references, if they give numbers, are largely wrong, or are literally "See Page XX". Cross referencing is not a strong suit of old White Wolf books. That said, its an Old White Wolf book, and I can't really ding the book for that, as I knew that going in. The art isn't complete crap (in fact, its just some photography for the most part, and decent photography at that). My real criticisms of the book is the layout. If you are going through the first time to create your character, the layout is actually pretty sane, but if you just need a quick reference, its tedious to keep jumping around the character creation chapter. If you do classic WoD larping, you can't pass this up, and at the current price, why would you?...

Wield is one of those Kickstarter successes that just takes you by surprise. Looking for only three thousand dollars, Wield brought in nearly 1,100 backers and raised over twenty-seven grand! Not bad for a little game that could be yours for as low as five dollars. I know I was a backer. I mean, at worst I would be out five dollars and I’ve been looking for a game similar to Bloodlust, except in English. Hey, I may speak/read/write French, but very few of my friends do, and Bloodlust is only in francais. Wield definitely felts inspired by Bloodlust in terms of the core theme, but it differs greatly in both mechanics and demographics. Bloodlust for example is very dark and filled with mature themes while Wield can be for any age as it’s extremely setting-lite. Threats: Dawn of the Dwimmerlaik (Diceless) Dawn of the Dwimmerlaik should have its art complimented from the outset. The Dwimmerlaik (DWL) seem almost native American in design, and those elongated faces are more than a little creepy. What they do and their powers do not reduce their creepiness. This is a heavy-information text and there is a lot inside it. It is set up as unconfirmed documents on the mysterious Dwimmerlaik. They are apparently magic users and mentalists and quiet alien. As such there are astral channelling rules included. They seem a bit like inquisitive mages, probing Lovecraftian mysteries in the attempt to get ahead. I don’t want to reveal too much, but it is quite rich and the DWL could be mysterious allies, manipulators or enemies. Coming to grips with them will be difficult for the players, as their astral powers could easily keep foes at length while they move their pieces around any campaign board. Pieces of Fate: Wyvern Coops & Easter Dragons (FATE) Pieces of Fate: Wyvern Coops and Easter Dragons is a fun, short supplement. It has some ideas and rules on dragons, wyverns and their weaponization and proliferation in your games. The idea of making wyverns as numerous as chickens and that they both taste like chicken, is pretty crazy (crazy good!) when you think about it. Then imagine that in a modern, wild west or post-apoc setting, there are giant wyvern eggs that can feed thirty, they can be used to make concrete and used for construction, but it is a whole lot of tech and danger to get them. You could use machines to fetch them, but the wyverns often eat them. *gulp* I smell adventure, and fried egg... What sticks out most to me, is the funny, succinct storytelling in this supplement. I know a friend that likes wild west, Serenity and prairie settings and I am letting him know about this. Wyverns for all. This also has the rules for a wyvern poop barrage. 5/5. I regret nothing....

Lucien's Guide: The Black Files (Diceless) Lucien’s Guide begins with a picture of a very creepy looking undead, chained underground with its mouth sewn shut and tearing at a beautiful glowing insect. This certainly has a lot of mystery, and this theme continues throughout as this book is about “some of the deepest secrets of the Universe” in the Lords of Gossamer & Shadow setting. The preface is a great little primer by the character-author Lucien and it is very entertaining. The text is a series of reports by Lucien for the GM. It is conversational, easy to read, and pretty fun to go through. There are a lot of jokes in-text and some very useful summaries in the conversation Lucien is having with the reader. Rob Donoghue can clearly write and it is believable, because while discussing ancient horrors the character of Lucien is frank with a sense of humour. How else would you discuss it? It is like this knowledgeable character is trying to get this information out as clearly as possible while also taking the reader along...

Baronica: A Dungeon World Campaign Front This is new territory. Few Dungeon World Campaign Fronts exist at the published stage, and it's a relief to see publishers such as Three Sages fill this void. I've played with this product long enough to know that it is a perfect environment in to which a group can be dropped for a very entertaining Dungeon World campaign. In other words, I've lost several characters in it as a player and killed off several as a narrator. We were all delighted at the quality of their demise! The key is that this product turns what works best as a one-off narrative game engine into an environment where players can experience old-school gaming tropes with new-school mechanics. Only those who have tried a thing have earned the right to judge a thing. Earn that right with this product, right now!...

Shadowrun: Street Grimoire Simply put, this book is interesting. The flavor is spot-on, the topics brought up useful, the various magical threats interesting and feasible to use. As a Shadowrun fan, I can find a use for most of the information, which has piqued my interest for a couple new character concepts. While I think there could have been some additional adept powers or metamagics, my big issue is the editing. Dozens of errors are in this book, and only two of them that I noticed were typos. The majority were random words, parts that had to have been deleted sections that they missed portions of, etc. It's aggravating, to say the least, when I pay twenty-five dollars for a book and get that many errors. I see less mistakes in the various novels I purchase, and they have a word count that dwarfs the Shadowrun books. Also, there was a single story error involving one of the chapter comments by a character who died towards the end of Fourth Edition. Besides those flaws however, the book is great. ...

ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition Steve Kenson and Dan Houser knock it out of the park once again with Icons: The Assembled Edition! The book is very well written. The art is fantastic. The truly awesome Icons system is even better with more options drawn from with out being too heavy. I love how all my Icons books are still useful with very little work. This new edition truly brings Icons to my gaming table like never before! Thank you guys! Great job!

Racial Ecologies: Living Dolls Just got this last night... I am always on the look out for something to help get my kids into roleplaying... well if living toys don't do it .I don't know what will.. my girls are big fans of toy soldiers,toystory, plucker,coraline..etc... I think they will really like this... as stated before the only real problem is healing and bringing them back from the dead unless you have a hot line to the Blue Fairy... but we can work around that... So when the lil princess gets kidnapped there is noone to save her but her best friends...her toys......

ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition A few years ago when I first picked up ICONS, I did it because I didn't have access to my copies of Mutants and Masterminds. My friends and I wanted to run something supers related but none of us had our normal materials so I popped onto the internet and did a quick search for something that would let us get to playing quick. I'd always liked the old school Marvel RPG as well as FUDGE/FATE and ICONS looked simple enough. I figured "Hey, why not". We rolled up our characters, had a hilarious time trying to sort them out and come up with great names and origin stories. Our game was a little on the wild side, we played Super Powered Lawyers who used their abilities to handle all the different harassment, threats, bribes, and other problems that a single Mega Corp (also run by a powered being) used against our clients (Think Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law, but a whole lot less humor). The game only lasted one session but that was all I needed to come to appreicate ICONS for wh...
