ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition
by Chris H. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Ad Infinitum Adventures
Date Added: 07/01/2014 11:23:22
ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition Whether you’re a longtime ICONS fan or a new player/GM looking for a relatively rules-light yet richly textured superhero RPG, you’ll welcome ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying: The Assembled Edition. If you’re not familiar with ICONS but are considering a purchase, this book will give you everything you need to get started … except for some six-sided dice, an adventure and friends to play it with. Chapter 1, “The Basics,” starts off by describing ICONS scale, a system of ranking abilities, powers, difficulties, and so on using a scale of 1 to 10 with corresponding adjectives (think of the classic Marvel Super Heroes RPG). Almost everything in ICONS is measured using this scale. Chapter 1 also defines the six ability scores used for ICONS characters, and explains Determination, a kind of in-game currency that players can spend to gain advantages and GMs can award to cause trouble. Fighting, of course, involves the additional consideration of damage and healing, which are addressed here ...

Legend/Deus Vult: Rouen
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Mongoose
Date Added: 07/01/2014 11:15:03
Legend/Deus Vult: Rouen Skilfully mixing real-world history with the background of the Deus Vult campaign setting, this is the story of Rouen: trading centre and capital of Normandy, visited from Scandinavian lands as well as from Europe... and with strongholds of the Order as well. Based there or just visiting, there's plenty of atmospheric detail to allow the city to come to life for your players. History, citizens, their amusements, the appearance of the city and the locations within it - they're all here, painted vividly and atmospherically. Naturally the cathedral is described in detail, complete with sufficient material to allow you to describe services even if you are not familiar with the mediaeval Mass. At every turn are notes which can be used to provide incidental events that heighten the role-play and give the feeling of really being there. Of course, as well as the regular merchants, clerics, nobles and everyday working folk, there are others. An occultist hidden away here, the Order's Prec...

The Genius Guide to More Barbarian Talents
by Thilo G. [Featured Reviewer]

The Genius Guide to More Barbarian Talents An Endzeitgeist.com review The expansion for the superb talented barbarian clocks in at 10 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page credits, 1 page SRD, leaving us with 7 pages of content, so let's take a look, shall we? A total of 4 new edges are provided - one to make an animal whisperer (wild empathy, then non-magical charm effect -wrap your head around that!), one to further improve cleaving, one for a mule-style barbarian with more carrying capacity/better str-checks and one to grant immunity versus compulsions, but with the caveat of including a higher-HD-by-4-caveat similarly to how sneak attack versus those tentatively immune to flanking is handled. A total of 24 talents are also part of the deal, covering wild empathy, being able to appraise non-magical objects/getting a kind of pidgin means of communicating simple concepts, speaking with animals of her form while skinwalking at will, one that lets you treat a very select array of weapons as a lighter category, imp...

The Genius Guide to Feats of Spellcasting II
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Rogue Genius Games
Date Added: 07/01/2014 10:17:23
The Genius Guide to Feats of Spellcasting II This is a somewhat quirky selection of feats that allows you to put your own twist on a spellcaster. Most do not appreciably add to their overall power, just make him that little bit different from every other spell-chucker in town. My favourite is Named Spells, which is previewed in the opening flavour fiction. It enables a mage to exert power over spells he himself invented (provided he's used his name in their title) even when they are cast by somebody else. If you run a mage who enjoys designing new spells this is definitely one to consider. Others that are quite fun are Retributive Strike, which deals damage to all foes nearby when you are knocked unconscious (and even more if you are killed), and Ring Lord which lets you store your spirit in a ring you have forged if you are unlucky enough to die whilst wearing it. Your spirit can then be raised later, and even before that if someone else is wearing it you can sense what is going on around and even cast the odd spell. Or...

Hornsaw: Forest of Blood Hornsaw, Forest of Blood Black and White PDF, 126 pages This is a scan, which means no bookmarks. It makes navigating the document kind of clunky. The text is legible but feels faded. Page 41 was actually scanned upside-down and nobody caught it. I'm just not a fan of this product.

The Queen of the Lost Valley
by Mauro L.
Publisher: GRAmel

The Queen of the Lost Valley Absolutely 5 Stars for me, as for the other B&B titles I have read and played up to now. The Queen of the Lost Valley begins in one of the most popular S&S plot (a map, a lost valley, barbarians, ancient gods) and goes on with more than one twist and a lot of nice ideas (I loved Old Devil!) The adventure is quite long and accurate (more than 60 pages, including opponents' statistics) and it requires at least 3 times to be completed (for the kind of sessions I'm used to, of course) and another 20 + pages are about the Iron Mountains, its people, places of interest and secrets. The quality is excellent. A title highly recommended! Bravo, Mr Pignatelli!...

21 More Organizations
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]
Publisher: Gypsy Knights Games
Date Added: 06/30/2014 09:08:18
21 More Organizations It's all part of bringing the Far Future to life... your Traveller universe needs to be teeming with people, ships and, yes, organisations with whom the party can interact. Such interactions can include joining the organisation, working for it on a casual basis, engaging in commerce with it, working against it or in association with it - or merely meeting a few members of it in a bar for a beer or a brawl. Designing them all takes time and effort, so here are 21 more organisations to stir into the mix. Whilst many are quite closely linked with planets within the Clement Sector where Gypsy Knights Games material is centred, much could be transplanted to another suitable location... or of course, they may come from Clement but for some reason are being encounted somewhere else. First up is Alpha Delta Force, an all-female paramilitary group which operates in a jungle area on the planet Tel'Kalares. They mount patrols, conduct research on what they find - both indigenous flora and f...

Rite Map Pack: City by the Sea
by Joe K.
Publisher: Rite Publishing
Date Added: 06/29/2014 21:56:35
Rite Map Pack: City by the Sea I'm one of those guys who loves maps. Some of my favorite products from the 'golden' era of TSR were the various fold out maps that could cover half a table. While this map is not that large, it's not meant to be. This is a generic city by the sea that is walled and could easily be slotted into any fantasy or historical campaign with little effort. There is a black and white version along with the color version. The color version has some nice subtle colors. The greens aren't blaring off the page for example but are more soothing and cool. You get an overview of the city, as well as larger portioned maps for ease of use and reference. There are even a few 'keyed' entries on the map, 14 in all, so if you're looking for some quick inspiration outside of the visuals, this should quickly help you out. I find products like this work great when you're using a home brewed campaign, or a mix of home brew and thinly detailed campaign like those put out by third party publishers that...

Rite Map Pack: River Rapids
by Joe K.
Publisher: Rite Publishing
Date Added: 06/29/2014 20:59:24
Rite Map Pack: River Rapids When it comes to map packs, in the digital age, the consumers are fortunate enough to have a lot of variety. I've used some Fiery Dragon and some Skeleton Key Games before. The only bad thing about such maps, and it's true of this one as well, is they can be ink intensive. The good news here is that the map comes in two formats, one full color and one in black and white. For me, I instantly thought of a certain old warhammer adventure that is on a river. Rivers are a popular place for 'dramatic' turning points. They're often a huge part of historical battles acting as a barrier or waiting until it's low enough to cross or knowing of a crossing. The art on these is top notch and if this specific map is one you're looking for, it's well worth getting. The fact that it's scaled for 1" per grid makes it easy to use with Pathfinder or other games that use "each square equal 5'....
