Tiles of the Dead : Games Room

Tiles of the Dead : Games Room Way over priced for what you get. The tiles are very low resolution. The artwork is decent though. The hallways are completely plain though, almost useless. What should have been included are top down windows and doors in PSD layered format. As well as giving the tile options of grid and no grid. All in all I have to say I feel a bit ripped-off :(

A21: Snow White part 2 This adventure follows on directly from Snow White Part 1, and realistically could not be run in any other way. I suppose you could say that the characters have been called in as trouble-shooters owing to the adventurers previously hired as security having made such a mess of things, but it seems a little forced. In any case, if you like this reskinning of a classic fairy tale concept, you really, really want to run Part 1, so go do that then come back! It opens with a lot of detail on the Haunted Forest, into which the characters must venture. This is quite sandboxy, they can roam quite freely and there are several 'encounter locations' that they will come across. It's a chilly place, and there is some good advice about using the weather as an adversary, as well as some fine 'Achemist's Journal' notes about the flora and fauna of the place - unfortunately the wizard/alchemist who wrote them was assiduous about keeping the forest and its resources a secret so even if you do have nat...

Castles & Crusades Castle Keepers Guide

Castles & Crusades Castle Keepers Guide It is often said that Castles & Crusades is the Rosetta Stone of Old School Gaming. It certainly is that, but there is a lot more going on here than just that. Castles & Crusades is very much a stripped down version of the basic 3.x SRD. As such there are lot of concepts that are modern including a one-roll mechanic for all sorts of situations. Though if that were all then there would be nothing separating this from say True20 or other "lite" d20 iterations. Castles & Crusades plays like good old fashioned D&D. The aesthetic here is 1st Ed. AD&D, with the simplicity of Basic era D&D. The concept is noble and one we see in many of the retro-clones. But where the clones attempt to use the OGL to make an older version of the rules, Castles & Crusades makes it's own rules and instead goes for the feel or nature of the game. So while you will see Thieve's abilities represented by percentage rolls in Basic Fantasy or OSRIC and as a skill in 3.x in C&C it will be a Dexterity check. ...

Autorun -Generic Cyber-Hacking for D20 Modern Originally posted at: http://diehardgamefan.com/2013/05/20/tabletop-review-autorun-
-generic-cyber-hacking-for-d20-modern/ I have a confession to make: I don’t play enough cyberpunk games. Still, I am familiar with the whole issue of one player (the “decker” generally) entering the realm of cyberspace while the rest of the party does something else. Split the party, split the game master’s attention, make it easier to lose track of stuff. Got it, I see the problem. What Autorun is trying to do is to help solve or minimize the issues that this causes at the table, by essentially introducing a mini-game that the decker(s) can play while everyone else is doing their stuff they need to do. Plug In The introductory material for this sourcebook indicates that it can be used with systems like D20 Modern or Pathfinder (Pathfinder…?), but of course, it can be hacked to work with anything. The only real stats have to do with the various anti-hacker programs and decker equipment that use ...

Free20: Forbiddance Well, you certainly get what you pay for with this free download. In short - it's terrible. It's a very short PDF that basically lists types of undead and then turning restrictions for them based on well, they basically plucked reasons out of thin air. If you ate radishes in the last week, you can't turn undead killer tomatoes. In short, it's not only nonsensical, it's *uninspired* nonsense. I would say save your money, but it's free, so save your time instead.

Renegade ~ Corruption

Renegade ~ Corruption All right, I'll admit it. I'm the person who can't keep all the versions of Renegade straight. Is Corruption the expanded ruleset or is it the Advanced version? All I know is that it has more pages than one of the Renegades and not as many as another. Or is it the other way around? What you have here is Original something-and-something with better editing (even self-editing beats no editing) and a "voice" in the text which speaks to someone who is not familiar with miniatures rules and jargon. Yes, when I read that Original game, I was utterly lost and made almost everything up on the fly. In a way, I liked that. Yet I also wanted to know what the actual nuts & bolts were, what made things tie together into a cohesive system. In short, I wanted to know what the script was that I was ad-libbing to. So it helps - a lot - that I can understand what Renegade is saying to me, and demonstrating to me how to play and run it. I really like the fact that it still allows me to ad-lib and h...

Spinechillers and Silent Killers

Spinechillers and Silent Killers Megan may be correct. Perhaps David could use an editor. A good editor can make a good book great and a great book fantastic, and there's not a one of us who is our own best editor. On the other hand, that would undoubtedly increase the price - and I'd rather see more copies of this book get in gamesmasters' hands than have it become a bit too much professional. There's a part of me which really likes the unstructured "fannish" style of writing. And the information - the raw data - is what the book is about. Is it easy to understand? Yes! Is it data you will use? Yes! Will you have a hard time using it because you'll be laughing so much? Probably! I didn't NEED to make my PCs feel even more uneasy, but I saw the most delightful thing for them to be served. Y'see, I just happen to have a photo of baked sheep's head. It's more than just traps, scary things, and PC killers. It's also a means to discomfort your heroes, to make things a little off-center. Just when they think they ...

Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok Where have you been all my life??? Where to begin? Well it's the Core Rulebook and it has everything: world lore (Ragnarok is brutal!), geography (WOW awesome maps for both mortal realms and the realms of the divinities!), key NPC's (everything from gods and giants to mortal royalty), culture and games (longships to rules for viking chess), the Runic game system (put away your dice, you are playing with rune stones now!), 15 playable archetypes (with 100's of powers and skills), monsters (and more monsters!) and an introductory saga that helps to get one acclimatized to a world where the sun and moon have been devoured! ...and the artwork is eye popping!...

Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok -- Fafnir's Treasure Fafnir's Treasure is taking the red pill to see just how far the rabbit hole goes! The runic game system (or RGS) is a wonderful rune based mechanic that makes story telling and mechanics resolution pure bliss. You have to see it to believe it!

SlaughterGrid

SlaughterGrid I really didn’t want to go back here. When I reviewed the Teratic Tome, I mentioned that I was going to need some time to recover from the twisted works of the sinister fiend Rafael Chandler. These few months have not afforded me the requisite recuperation necessary, and yet with the release of his first adventure – the unsubtlely-named Slaughtergrid – someone has to step up to warn the role-playing world about the horrors found herein. As no one else has done so yet, it falls to me. The book – which has amusingly changed its titular game system to Gateways & Golems – opens with, of all things, a soundtrack. Actually, “soundtrack” is the wrong word, as these were the songs (a hundred or more) the author listened to when writing the material, rather than being music keyed to specific areas in the game. That said, this is probably the first real warning of what you’re going to get here, as showcased by listings of November Doom’s “They Were Left To Die” or Deicide’s “Hang In Agony Unt...

A12: When the Ship Goes Down This adventure presents some interesting quirks, and is best run for a group of characters who have already become well-known in the area through particpation on earlier adventures. It begins with some unseasonal bad weather, storms so severe that waterborne traffic has ceased. Although it doesn't suggest this, if you are running this as part of a campaign set in and around Rybalka, you might want to have the bad weather start during the previous adventure rather than suddenly announce that it's stormy. When an experienced sea captain shows up dead, his battered corpse tied to a shipping crate and floating into the harbour, the characters are asked to investigate... The adventure starts rather slowly although there is an interesting scene involving a potentially-hostile mob - and which occasions the presentation of ways in which you can handle a mob scene. One suggestion is to handle them as a swarm, dispersing when they reach a notional 'zero hit points' (although no damage is a...

Universal Adventures Treasure Deck I have been looking for a product like this for awhile. I love the fact to be able to give the card to the player of the item they get, makes it easier to keep track of and the stats. Granted, the pages printed out nice, but only 6 of the 14 pages are actual items, there is 54 items so enough for a 'deck' but I guess I was expecting more. I guess what brings the rating down for me is the price. There is similar companies that offer treasure decks that have more items and sometimes for less money....

Admiral o' the High Seas: The Naval Combat Supplement for Pathfinder & D&D 4th Edition My problem with this product? It is NOT Pathfinder compatible. I don't care what the label says, everything is in 4e stats. All of the rules draw on 4e tropes. I imagine it works perfectly fine as a 4e supplement. It is entirely useless to me as written. Just because they both use a d20, doesn't mean they are interchangeable.
